I own Sleeping In Traffic Part 1, Destined Solitaire and Mammoth. SIT1 and DS are fun albums on the whole. "And The Stone Said..." is a kickass song, but I don't really like the rest of Mammoth.
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

hrrmm. well, for the past circa15 months, i would pretty much always choose to spin "and the stone said..." if i had to pick between the two. now, even if i liked SIT better, this woulda made sense 13-15 months ago as ATSS... was super fresh and i was spinning/learning the album like 90. but even now that ATSS... has had a couple hundred spins to its name, it isnt so fresh, and i know the songs equally well, i would go with ATSS..., even though its darker and conveys fewer moods ( aka, is a little more linear). as much as i love SIT, and even though it has some quirk and kinda runs the gamut, the song kinda wore thin on me a while ago. i'm sure i'll get into it plenty if its playing, but i rarely feel pumped to put it on.

also, ATSS... is my favorite song off Mammoth. also also, i find it nearly impossible to not play air drums when its on.

man, i just put in some BTBAM, but i'm all of a sudden in the mood to hit eject and throw in Mammoth.

I know this discussion is going to be amongst all of four people, but...

And the Stone Said > Sleeping in Traffic.

Discuss.

Not even close.
Cole: "Ow I just got hit in the balls"
Me: "How?"
Cole: "Well you know when you try to scratch your balls, and you scratch too hard?
I'll admit sometimes I want to listen to Dragonforce.

I kind of have to agree with you. I mean, SIT is amazing! But its like 40 minutes long, so i find myself listening to ATSS a lot more. ATSS is probably their best composed prog-epic to date.
I love the "But there's blood gushing out of the cracks and fissures"-melody. Its just brilliantly composed! I allways feel like they're modulating between every round they're playing, but they really not. Rikard is such an amazing composer  :heart

BEARDFISH: REVEAL COVER ARTWORK AND TRACKLIST OF THEIR NEW ALBUM + ANNOUNCE TOUR IN FALL SUPPORTING FLYING COLOURS

Only about 1 ½ years after the release of their last record "Mammoth", Beardfish are now back with a new masterpiece. "The Void" will be released on August 27th 2012 in Europe and on August 28th 2012 in the US via InsideOutMusic. It is darker, heavier and in some parts it even has a bit of a metal edge to it, while still incorporating all that Beardfish and their typical warm retro-sound stand for.

The band comments: "We went full-on with this one... We've had some trouble in the past to convey our live energy on the studio albums. This is the one that shines through, I think! It's an album about loss. It's about love. It celebrates both life and death and the struggle in between to heal the wounds that don't show and to actually take the step to move forward in life. We've been waiting to share these songs with all of you for a while now and we, Beardfish, are really proud to present to you 'The Void'"

Having played Prog Day, NJ ProgHouse, and NEARfest I think it's a good bet that even if it's not next year, RoSfest will probably grab them at some point.

I got the album in my inbox two days ago and have put a couple listens in, but am having a wicked busy week so I don't think I'll get out a timely review. I just wanted to say that what stood out most about this album was the bands ability to stay fresh. There are some sides of Beardfish on this album that I really don't think we've heard yet, and I think people will at least appreciate that.

Regarding the cover: conversation on the Beardfish FB page (answer by Beardfish):

Pumped to hear the new album, but I'm disappointed by the art, especially after Mammoths awesome cover.

Hopefully you'll like the music and then you might find the reason we had for choosing this particular cover! Because there's always a reason :)

A couple of people at Prog Archives have gotten promotional copies, and have been saying good things. I'm starting to get excited about the new album. Less than 2 weeks 'til it comes out  ;D

In similar news, I'll also have a review there soon of this album as I got off my lazy ass and finally wrote it.

Listening to the album now. I'm on He Already Lives In You. I'm not really sure what to think. I really liked Seventeen Again and Ludvig & Sverker but I think this will need more listens before I can properly judge it.

i cant believe how disappointed i was after my first spin...if i can even call it my first spib; i stopped it after track 7 and threw in some Banks of Eden. tracks 4 and 6 seemed like that hd promise and that i'll eventually for sure get into them...but the other 4 'songs' really werent doing it for me.

also listened to a few tracks of new alanis...enjoyed it more inthat at least i wasnt feeling let down.

i'm actually trying to work up the courage to try it again. im scared of my level of disappoint. it'll win me over, right?! scarediwontlikeitemoticon

I came here to mention that I'm on my 4th listen of The Void, and it's starting to grow on me. I was kinda disappointed on the first listen too, except for Ludvig & Sverker which I liked right away (and the bonus piano version even more). The only thing I'm not getting is the epic "Note". It just seems to be there, for 16 minutes. But epics take time to appreciate so we'll see.

The band really upped the riffage and 'metal' in their sound, at least for the first 4 tracks (not including the introduction). But they still write great melodies. I didn't expect such a departure in their sound for those early tracks, but like I said, it's been growing on me.

Gave it another listen today and its grown on me. I like the second half of the album much more than the first. My favorites are still Seventeen Again and Ludvig & Sverker but I liked Note a lot more this time.

i really wanna read nick's review, but i also dont wanna rely on his words to help me get into the album (wanna force it on myself), so i'll give it a few more listens first. im coming around that theres some decent stuff on there, but i'm still feeling the disappoint on both the direction and the songwriting.

It makes me happy that this comment is based on the premise I actually know what I'm talking about! Clearly you haven't been paying attention! :lol

But I hear ya on that. Personally I only read reviews of albums I'm unsure on. There is stuff I know I won't buy regardless of reviews, and there is stuff I'll buy pretty much no matter what people say, and if I have an album I like to make my own opinions before incorporating others into it.

its weird. sometimes i'll love a band/album/song then i'll read a bunch of negativity towards it, on this forum for example, and i'll actually start questioning how much i like the band/album/song (or even whether or not i like it much at all  :omg:) (okay, thats a bit of an exaggeration. but only a bit, thats the messed up part).

and at the same time, i feel like reading a very positive review (no idea how you feel about the album yet) can help me come around on something im questioning. not that thats a bad thing, but for a band i love as much as beardfish, i wanna be able to find the positives in something im questioning without needing someone else to do it for me.

but yeah, aside from all that, i believe ive already expressed my  :corn towards nick reviews, even if ive only ever read a few.

(mostly enjoying everything 'cept the first two tracks songs still).
