i got SiT pt 1 this week and ive listened to it twice. I like what i hear, and i think a few more spins, and i'll love the album. Im hoping to get part 2, and then DS. After that, if I like them enough, i'll check out the first 2 albums.

New Beardfish fan, right here.

"South of the Border" is so awesome.

EDIT: This band is like a cross of Genesis/Yes and Frank Zappa. Such interesting musical sections.

EDIT2: Sorry for all the edits, but I don't want to triple post.. But anyway, the only thing I really don't like about this band is that sometimes their vocal melodies are just kind of like, really out there. Songs like "Afternoon Conversation" and some of the middle sections of "Roulette" just have really lame or completely unfitting vocal melodies. I think it's due in part to the fact that they're so melismatic and there's a note change on every single syllable.

I just picked up Sleeping in Traffic Part one for $8 without even knowing a thing about this band.  I have not listened to it yet.  :tup

I've heard both SiT's and I think I prefer the first one, although the title track of 2 is the best song of theirs I've heard.

ive got Sleeping In Traffic I & II, both are absolutely amazing, 2 of the best additions to my collection. I recently got Destined Solitaire and am actually on my 3rd listen right now. Much heavier, but a lot to digest. I wont know which is the best till i listen to DS a little more.

I dont have the first 2 albums, how are they?

Is anyone else excited for the new album Mammoth?

i heard it comes out March 8, but then i also heard it comes out March 30. Anyone know for sure?

pretty sure march 30th, and yes, stoked as fuck.

...that'll give you enough time to digest the hell outta destined solitaire before you can spin the new one...i was already blown away by the sleeping in traffic's when DS came out...and personally, i think they outdid the previous two albums.

as for the first two, i reckon i dont like em as much, but to be fair, i havent given them enough of a chance yet

BUMP!

Okay, so I'd heard a few songs from these guys when they were supposed to be touring with DT but just finally got around to getting an album (Mammoth- only $6 new at the store for some reason  ???) and I fucking love it so far! So very groovy. Reminded me a lot of The Flower Kings... and there is definitely some Zappa in there, which of course turns me on. I actually originally went to the store to get ADTOE and looked around a bit, which I'm glad I did because so far this album is definitely overshadowing the former...

Seeing these guys on Tuesday, CAN NOT WAIT! They were so fantastic at NEARfest a few years ago.

I'll also be interviewing the band, so if you would like to suggest any questions, now would be the time.

Been on a mini-Beardfish kick lately.

I should have bought Mammoth at the show last week but was so impressed with The Tea Club, I bought their CD instead (which I like quite a bit too.)

If there is one thing that show prep showed me, it's that while I still think DS is their weakest since the debut, it's still a damn fine album. I'd have to check to see what I rated it when I reviewed it, but it's probably too low.

rikard and myself are the only people in abigail's universe that view DS as their magnum opus. as well written and performed as the other works, but far more ambitious, and containing all the bells n whistles.

If you liked the heaviness of DS I think you'll be in for a treat come the 7th album.

^ that its their magnum opus, or that rikard and myself are the only one's who think so? ...little need to answer, i'll assume the latter.

If you liked the heaviness of DS I think you'll be in for a treat come the 7th album.

i never really thought about it, but ya, i guess it had those heavier moments than its predecessors. i think i just saw it as a bit more 'everything' than their previous output.
when Mammoth was released, i think i kinda viewed it as their heavy album with its increased % of rocking out...but now that i'm thinking about it, i guess youre right, Destined Solitaire IS probably heavier.
so the new album's gonna be heavier than Mammoth?! i musta zoned out or something when i checked out your interview (cool stuff, btw, even if i zoned out a bit). i was under the impression from a Rikard interview some months back that the new album would more stuff along the same lines as Mammoth...i mighta jumped to conclusions hearing that the writing was once again mostly a group effort (as was Mammoth) rather than the mostly-written-by-Rikard efforts of the past.

I can only judge by the two tracks they played live, but I'd say it's going to be their heaviest yet if they are any indication. I personally think Mammoth is their best, tied with SiT2, so I just hope they keep up that level of awesome.
