Usually those seeking the attention by acting a certain way (i. e. depressed) are not actually that way and really just want attention on them. People who are depressed are in such pain and inner tumult that even moving off the couch feels pointless other than to use the bathroom. Eating becomes an unnecessary chore. Trust me, I know. I lost 50 pounds two summers ago. You feel like every muscle in your body is sore. Whatever chemicals are being released due to your state are drowning any chance of feeling better. People try to help. They do their best to help you, but unless they've actually gone through it whatever they do to "cheer you up" for the moment disappears the second you're left alone again. You want to force a smile because you feel bad that they are trying so hard and you feel bad that they feel helpless. That smile hurts. It feels like your whole face just went deformed for a moment because that smile is unnatural. You're miserable. The sun hurts your eyes so the curtains remain closed. Even watching your favorite shows seems tedious but you watch them anyway just for the company, just to break up the monotony.
Nobody knows how that feels unless they've lived through it themselves. Unless they've stood at the precipice and saw nothing but blackness. No hope. No point. No purpose. Everything is totally fucking empty. So fuck you to people who pretend that they're depressed just for the attention.
