I assume most of my southernly neighbours have today off for an extra-long weekend?

Today would normally be an off/lieu day since Canada Day was on Saturday, but here I am.  Got some work stuff to do.... and by "work", I mean I need to be looking for work.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

Morning. I feel a little better. I'd take today off as well but I've gotta prepare for tomorrow. July 4th is the busiest day of the year. We have all hands on deck... 12 guys on instead of 2. I'm technically scheduled to work 7a-3p, but I'll probably stay till 5 or even 7. It's hard to say no to 12 hours of time and a half, especially after my recent pay bump!
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Hey Reap.

Finally finished another shot on my video today. 3 left, but they're the most important ones.

So 3 weeks ago, I noticed the clasp on my watch had lost a screw and two washers. I was still able to wear it because when fully clasped it was secure, but as soon as it was opened the whole clasp was prone to completely falling apart. I had taken it to my jeweler to have them order parts and they said I could keep the watch, they'd just order the parts and let me know when they came in. Estimated cost for the parts was around $200 (yes, for just the clasp; it's an expensive watch). I then got a phone call a few days later that I would actually have to give up the watch for 2 weeks while they ordered the parts because each part is available individually from the maker, so they need to watch with them to make sure they order the proper materials. Oh well, whatever is necessary.

I decided not to drop off the watch til after my vacation because I could still wear it and I wanted it while away. I went back in today, prepared to leave my watch for 2 weeks and to pay a bill of about $200. To my surprise, the jeweler told me she already had the parts because, amazingly, three other guys had come in after me with the same issue with their watches, so they simply went ahead and ordered clasp assemblies for all the watches. She made the repair while I waited, and because all I needed was a screw and two washers, not the tang with the brand on it, the cost only came to $50! SWEET! Nice surprise.

tl;dr - I expected a watch repair to take 2 weeks and cost me $200; it instead was done while I waited and only cost $50. :tup

What an awful week last week was. My computer broke (awesome for a grad student), got a D on a major test, feeling totally overwhelmed by work/school and oh yea, one of my best friends has a year or so left to live.

I never know what to say when people have horrible times like that. I know there isn't much to be said by way of comfort, I just hope you find the strength to get through the stresses and hard times. My therapist has suggested mindful meditation as a way to help, sometimes. It's a thought. Otherwise, we have your back here, for whatever that's worth.

Checking in from work!

I have some hot tea and am working on trying to break this shit up that's in my throat... Tomorrow is going to be a long day (12 hours coordinating 4th of July operations) and then I am coming in on my day off Thursday to make up for missing work yesterday (even though I am still using sick time... lol)

Back in the office after 11 days off.

I guess the mark of a good job is not feeling sick at all upon returning.

Back at work, it's going to be a nice and quiet week.

Same, our vacation calendar had to be expanded to fit in all the names of people off this week, including my boss.  Still in change freeze for another hour too, but I don't see anyone rushing to work on stuff.
