Well, is an establishment only has two restrooms, and one of them has to be designated gender neutral, it's not like they are going to do a total remodel to add a third restroom.  A lot of places can't do that.

True, but I can already see the page-long discussions over why they picked the men's restroom, the sociopolitical arguments over that and whether or not it's sexist, why the men's room and not the women's, etc. - interesting subject for sure.

Well, just like there can't be racism against whites, there can't be sexism against males.  Or so one line of argument goes (needless to say, a line of argument that I do not agree with for various reasons, none of which are, consciously, self-serving.)

Without going into detail, my irritant of the day is people who cannot interact with others without drama, and try to get "the boss" to step in and smooth things over rather than handling the situation themselves.  I swear, I want to have business cards printed that just say "HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS" in large script, and hand them out in that situation.  Between my kids and some other people I deal with, I'd go through them like candy.

Bosk1 as a boss I find both sides for a high percentage are both selfish and believe they are correct.   What's missing a lot in general in all walks of live is compromise.

We need more of it in a bad way as a society.

Yeah, it's 2 issues really.  One is failure to compromise, as you mention.  The other is an expectation that others will step in and solve your problems instead of you handling what you are perfectly capable of handling yourself.

I had a coworker who used to say if you ignored a problem long enough someone else would resolve it.  It's funny how true that is, but it really sucks when you are the one always doing the resolution part.

them: "so..how's your kid doing?"....

(I begin to reply)

them: "uh huh...(nodding nodding..don't really care grunting"

them: ....then LAUNCH into and above your talk with their own facebook server staggering story of their own kids - WHICH - was what they wanted to do all along and never gave a crap about your crap...

I'm sure there's a term for this. It happens to me often. I consider myself a great listener. Nice to be listened to once in a while as well.
Take care everyone - Bet you all didn't even notice I was gone.

Just make them both gender neutral. Now everyone can poop together.

You would think, right?   Let me ask this: for all those here that have live-in spouses, partners, signifcant others, etc.:   do you have two gender-specific crappers in YOUR house?  I know I don't.   I don't like doing my business in public anyway, but the problem is a PERSON on the other side of the wall, not a specific GENDER.

(My only problem is in treating different groups differently in terms of their ability to dictate who gets to poop next to them.)

I have 2 employees, who are both decent employees, and both over twice my age, that cannot get along with each other, to the point where I had to get MY boss to step in, as they were acting like children, and apparently don't take me seriously enough to listen to me when I say "Get over it and figure out a way to work with each other"
I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Why would "one of them [have] to be designated gender neutral"?  It wouldn't surprise me for a second to learn that the People's Socialist Republic of California is now requiring "gender neutral" restrooms, but I'd have thought I'd know about it if that were the case.

Also, this just begs the question:  If there has to be a "gender neutral" restroom, then why have the other restroom to be specific to one gender to the exclusion of the other gender?

Just make them both gender neutral. Now everyone can poop together.

Exactly.  If there is a "gender neutral" restroom and another that is specific to one gender, then that's textbook discrimination against the other gender.

True, but I can already see the page-long discussions over why they picked the men's restroom, the sociopolitical arguments over that and whether or not it's sexist, why the men's room and not the women's, etc. - interesting subject for sure.

That's kinda what I'm thinking, but I'm trying not to get too terribly political.

AB-1732 requires some public establishments to have them in CA.  I don't know all the rules and exceptions to rules in that regard.  But I am sure that, as in other contexts, a lot of businesses are just figuring they have to comply, even if they don't, and not wanting to have to deal with defending a lawsuit even if they don't.  So they are just trying to figure out how to cope the best they can.

I'm sure you're right, but AB 1732 applies only to "single user toilet facilities," which is defined to mean "a toilet facility with no more than one water closet and one urinal with a locking mechanism controlled by the user."

More of California's seemingly never-ending quest to enact more and dumber laws than every other state.

And California has to stop doing that because Minneapolis and St Paul keep looking to them for new laws and now drive-thrus are banned in Minneapolis.  :lol

What the hell? Just looked this up. Found this:

Quote
But love them or not, there are plenty of cases against them. At their best, they mean more paved surfaces slick with polluted runoff, more curb cuts where pedestrians will have to dodge traffic, and the occasional phalanx of queuing cars blocking sidewalks.

Are they talking about Drive Thrus? That reads like something out of a teenage angst-ridden dystopian future novel.

Yes, Drive Thrus as in Fast Food and Pharmacy drive thrus. And it's no longer an idea, it's the new law. Of course, it doesn't effect existing drive-thrus, but new construction will not allow for drive thrus because they don't align with the future vision of the city (homicides and random shootings have also gone up as they cut police and their budgets, but maybe that's their vision...). As they've increased minimum wage, businesses have left Minneapolis by the dozens... it's all part of their vision. They've jacked up on-street parking permits to decrease driving, and new apartment buildings are going to start having no parking lots or underground parking spots available to discourage driving.

It's no joke that one of the top reasons why they pushed for this law is because drive thrus encourage driving, which as I've said, they don't want. Handicapped people showed up to those meetings on the new law saying that banning drive thrus would hurt their quality of life because they rely on them for easy access to places they normally would have trouble getting to. The elderly showed up and said in the winter, drive thrus helped them get their medications they need and banning them would have a negative effect on them. Remember folks, we are living in a city where it got down -54 degrees Fahrenheit last winter. City Council just told them they would have to adapt, not their problem.

The most telling thing in that City Pages article (which is usually very whiny, but hey, they awarded my store Best Grocery Store in the Twin Cities a few years back so I kinda love them), is this quote from a city planner:

“I’m sure there will be pushback,” senior city planner Mei-Ling Smith says. But she’s hopeful Minneapolis will see the benefits. She’s not aware of any other city making such an ambitious move.

She's not aware of any other city making such an ambitious move. Sounds like having the ability to say "We're the first to do this!!" is part of their motivation.

Progressives like this want to tear down cities and build them up in their own socialist utopian vision: no cars, no successful private businesses, no private property, no freedom of movement...

Isn't that the city that banned single family housing zoning?

I'm all for banning drive thrus.    Less chance for some selfish douche bag to order $62.95 worth of fast food, then complain when it's not cooked perfectly to order.  Get out of your car and get your lazy ass in the store!

This is my favorite drive thru story.  I was dating my wife 15 years ago....she's working the overnight shift at a store while in college.  I go to the Steak & Shake drive through at 2 or 3am to bring her food while she's on her break.  I order two full meals, go through everything - burger, fries, drinks.  This is the response I get through the drive thru speaker:

WHUUUT?

The guy didn't take my order at all the first time and I had to run through it again a second time for him.   :lol

I love hearing all these horror stories about fast food places and I can literally count on one hand how many times I've had a wrong order in the last ten years.  :lol

My old man no longer eats fast food, but for the better part of 20 years my mom and I would make fun of him all the time because he refused to check the order before leaving the parking lot. Then he'd come home, realize the order was wrong and storm back out the door and very likely scare the living shit out of some unsuspecting teenager :lol His logic was that they should get the order right and he shouldn't have to check, but every time this happened we'd facepalm even harder because it's literally as simple as checking the bag before leaving the lot. That's it. But he'd never do it and get madder and madder. Fucking hysterical. He never did go back and claim the free buckets of KFC he got after he got the manager fired for getting all hood over a simple mistake the manager made in the first place. Amazing

:lol I typically don't check and typically dont have issues other than the typical other customers being idiots.  It was maybe last year though that I told the drive through they were terrible at a Burger King.  I already don't like Burger King but was hungry and that was available while driving, so after waiting for a really long time at the screen with no one responding, I drove up to the window to see if they were even working or what ever (it was mid day, so not closing time) and two ladies opened the window and yelled at me for driving up.  I said I was asking if anyone was there and no one responded, so you suck at your job  :lol and drove off.  I couldn't believe how rude these two girls were to me for driving up.

The "car culture" in California would never allow that to happen.  That's just some absurd shit.

That is such an annoying term, and I am not pinning on it you, since you are just quoting it. It's like people who enjoy owning a car of their choice, and enjoying the freedom of movement, the ability to take themselves and their families where they choose and when to do so are all banded together across socio-economic and racial and ethnic backgrounds and relegated to being some primitive, hateful, ignorant cult.

Have you been to LA? For one, I never thought anyone associated "car culture" with "primitive, hateful, ignorant cult."  :lol But LA has little public transportation and is the second biggest city in the US.  The car culture is just the reality and it's kind of crazy IMO how a city that size has such a "car culture"

I suppose there's two meanings for "car culture."  I was using it in the sense that California -- and especially Southern California -- is so car dependent and lacking in good public transportation.  It could also be used to refer to people who are really into cars, but that wasn't what I was intending at all.
