I don't think it looks cheap, but it's not a glossy expensive American show, and doesn't use effects. It just looks like a show, typically Canadian production really.
I was also put off by Eric McCormack, but I don't mind him at all in this. I quickly forgot what else I'd known him from, luckily.
I don't know what you'd think of the show, but if you have time, it would be worth checking out the first episode. :tup
