Sigh. We apologize again. Our intention was to set the record straight regarding the nature of the first ad due to a concern that it might reflect poorly on Mr. Brownridge. We honestly had no idea of the elevated status and sense of satisfaction he enjoyed as a result of the first ad, which we ruined with the second. That clarification has removed many avenues for him, as well as a sense of great pride, and for that we are truly sorry. The best thing at this point is to simply say that Mr. Brownridge was willing to go above and beyond in providing wonderful service.

Aw...I think George looks like a nice guy.  He can take me shopping anytime.

Some of you might have seen this on Takei's FB feed.  A couple got an angry/semi-threatening note from neighbors because they are walking around naked in their own home with the blinds up.  It was sort of surprising to read the strong emotions some people have about the situation.  A whole lot of, "Won't someone think of the children!"  I had to laugh.

Those two really need to seek some legal advice. I have no idea how it is in the UK, but in this country they're pretty much begging to be put on a sex offender registry. They really don't want to find out the legal ramifications after they get nicked.

WTF.  This is the end of our society, I'm telling you.  The Chinese are going to launch an invasion, and we're not going to know it because our bandwidth is going to be tapped out on "viral" debates on the merits of sarcastic notes versus in-person visits.   MAN.   Don't these people have any shame?  Any dignity?

Goodness, I thought I had a problem with hyperbole.  LoL

Should they be ashamed of using social media or ashamed of disrobing in their own home?

And FWIW, the debate isn't about the note.  It is about whether or not people should be offended if they pass by someone's house and catch a glipse of a naked person inside who happens to live there.  Oh the shock, the horror!   :o   :chill

I swear Americans are so up-freaking-tight about nudity.  It isn't like they were doing the horizontal chacha with the blinds up.   ::)

Oh, it is very clearly about the social media.  I think - and it's hyperbole, but not nearly as much as you might, or want to, think - that social media will be the the death knell of a free society.

There was a great line in the recent Supergirl; something happened and they got information from social media and one of the women from the future said "what is this 'social media'?" and her husband - also from the future but who lived for a spell in Supergirl's time - said "Oh, don't worry about it; it was a fad, and a short one at that."   One can only hope.

Whenever confronted with stories like this, I think to myself "what a wonderful... why do I KNOW this? Why is this my business, or ANYONE'S business that doesn't live on that block??"

I am with you 100%, and even including doing the horizontal bop.   Who cares? They are in their own house, and while the expectation of privacy isn't what we think it is - if you're in front of your windows, with no blinds, you don't really have a reasonable expectation of privacy - I think 85% (just throwing a number to make a point) of times someone feels "offended" they are the ones who ought to check it at the door.   It's so easy to just look the other way, my god.

Last time I went on a cruise - in the Caribbean - we ended up next to this same ship in like three ports of call.  Each time, this one guy - he looked like Bob Hoskins, the actor - would stand out on his balcony buck naked.  Jimmy swinging like Dave Kingman in a home run derby, and not an ounce of shame.  Waving across at people on our ship like it was any other Tuesday.

I envied him.  Seriously.

Should they be ashamed of using social media or ashamed of disrobing in their own home?

Oh, it is very clearly about the social media.  I think - and it's hyperbole, but not nearly as much as you might, or want to, think - that social media will be the the death knell of a free society.

There was a great line in the recent Supergirl; something happened and they got information from social media and one of the women from the future said "what is this 'social media'?" and her husband - also from the future but who lived for a spell in Supergirl's time - said "Oh, don't worry about it; it was a fad, and a short one at that."   One can only hope.

I'm going to have to push back a little - respectfully.  I'm not saying social media is the best thing that ever happened to humans but I'm pretty sure 'death knell of a free society' has also been used to describe talkies, television, Elvis' swinging hips, and video games.  Yet somehow, we are surviving.

Just out of curiosity though - how is posting something on Twitter or FB all that much different than posting on a chat board?  Do you suppose that some of the same motivations you have for posting here could be applied to others choosing to post things on other forms of on-line media?

Now I have this song in my head:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0GFRcFm-aY

Perhaps, but surviving and thriving are not equally desirable states of being.
