I dunno how bad of a person he was, but I know he fought against McCarthyism in Hollywood.

Didn't even know he was still alive.  When somebody famous makes it to 75-80 and I don't hear about them, I usually assume they might have passed and I just missed the news.

Really don't know why his death would be a cause for celebration?  Does he deserve the death penalty?

Apparently he is suspected to have raped Natalie Wood and also did some pretty bad stuff to his deceased son.

Natalie Wood claimed to have been quite brutally raped at 15 by a famous and powerful actor. Word around the camp fire is that it was Kirk Douglas. Her sister knows who the person is but has refused to talk about it until he's dead. Natalie was very well liked and pretty fucked up as a consequence and there are people pretty angry about it who blame him for ruining the lass.
