Do you have a movie genre that you've lost your taste for?
« on: October 24, 2016, 03:34:48 PM »
For me it's horror films.  When I was younger,  I'd see many horror films in the theaters.   The last few I've enjoyed was The Ring & The first few Scream movies.

Now, they just don't do it for me anymore even though I know there are good ones out there.

What tastes have changed for you in certain genres?

Probably horror for me too.

I mean i've never really enjoyed them but I really don't like them at all now.

I'm too depressed to watch films that are just designed to make you feel bad.

The only horror film i ever saw in the cinema was Event Horizon - which I really enjoyed as I was with friends.

Yea I think horror is the easy pick here.  Not a big movie buff to really say any other genre has fallen for me as much as horror has.

It is really hard to find good horror movies.

I don't know if I've lost the taste for it, but I haven't watched many dramas lately.

Hahaha  :lol Yep. Like...the milisecond I finished reading the title it was "horror" and I had this feeling that's about all I'd see.

So yeah, just echoing what has already been said. It's all shit these days.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes I like watching said shit either for nostalgia purposes or just so I can huddle next to some boobies (horror films will never ever stop being the go-to date movie for certain occasions, and for that I commend them) or for some stupid jump scares. But yeah, overall I see them few and far between given the massive amount of ridiculous saturation of the genre in the market. That, and the masses addiction with "spirits/ghosts/fucktwats/etc/apoew8iu5oijg" is nauseating. The only thing that rivals it is the recent half decade obsession with zombies (and I know it's been an obsession before that but uh...wow...TWD started some serious SHIT).

Definately Comedy.

Used to enjoy comedies when I was younger, now I'm very selective and barely watch any comedy films - all these Stiller, Sandler, Ferrell, Gervais, Jack Black, Rogen films - won't touch them with a bargepole.

Action movies. I know it's broad term but I'm talking about those all-action movies. I used to like them as a kid but I don't think I could sit through another Steven Seagal movie or something.

I don't think it's so much that I've lost a taste for any particular genre, but most genres have turned to complete shit in Hollywood these days. Action, scifi, comedy, horror, I basically can't stand Hollywood attempt them now (especially comedy). They're so homogeneous and either watered down or trying too hard to be over the top.

Because most of those people aren't funny at all. Gervais especially. Plus a horrible prick in real life.

Yeah Hollywood comedy nowadays is either people shouting constantly or they have to make it so filthy and market it on that alone.

Come see this film ! it's filth ! People are shocked !

I highly doubt "Sausage Party" made all it's money because people went to see an amusing film about food.

I agree completely. I don't even enjoy watching those Hollywood action types of movies anymore. I would much rather find some independent film with obscure humor or check out some film noir.

As far as what many people here have said, I agree with horror as well. They're all the same these days. I would much rather watch Nosferatu or the original Phantom of the Opera. Those are excellent movies to watch.

I find modern action movies are an assault on the senses, just a bunch of endless explosions with no context in reality to ground it.
If I want to watch action/comedy, I'll stick to the greats of the '80s/'90s. For horror/gore, I'll go with something from Japan/Asia. If I want scifi, I'll go foreign/indie. There's a ton of great stuff if you take the time to dig around.

I concur. I think our first move is to see if it's a Hollywood blockbuster. If so, don't watch it.  :lol  You said it the way I see it. It's an assault on the senses, and quite unnecessarily as well. It's a battle to see who can do better CGI. Which do you prefer, CGI Yoda or Puppet Yoda?

If the kids want to go see one of these types of movies, I'll probably bring them along, but you know what you're going to get pretty much every time now.

I think generally speaking, I've gone the other way where I appreciate more types of movies these days compared to 10 years ago. But if I had to pick one, then maybe comedies. I still watch a lot of them, but I very rarely find them to actually be funny. Most of the big comedies to come out of Hollywood rarely provide me with more than a chuckle or two, compared to maybe 10-15 years ago (whether it was me or the movies) when I would laugh several times during certain comedies. Either you have people getting kicked in the groin, or just the laziest jokes.

Action movies, the ones with lots of explosions and car chases etc. I liked them in my teens, but now I'm not interested at all.

This. I rarely ever watch any comedy anymore, movies or TV.

Although, my #2 and #3 movies of 2016 are currently comedies, but that is really really rare. But hey, when it's good it's good. I just never really feel in the mood to watch comedy.

I still enjoy horror movies, there are a few good ones out there though they are becoming few and far between. I think a genre I used to enjoy a lot before and don't care for much is some forms of comedy. The physical kind with Jim Carrey/Adam Sandler type.

Honesty, most people who don't like the horror genre don't like it because they don't watch enough horror movies. There's more to the horror genre than mainstream American horror movies you know? Mainstream American horror movies are usually among the worst the genre has to offer.
