Guys, based on a comment Fluffy made in the PM he sent me with the new song I want to clarify something, I want songs that make me smile which is not the same as make me laugh. I'm not looking for comedy, I'm looking for something that puts me in a smiling mood. That being said, if any of the 2 people that already sent want to re-send please do so.

Dunno if this has been mentioned, but is there a max time on songs we submit?

And if so, will there be an epics round, perchance?

No max time but if you're thinking of sending a long song read my comments on Sacul's song from last round. And no, there will not be an epics round.

Care to give some examples of what makes you smile?

The Latest 2 or 3 albums by Anathema have several songs that put a smile on my face, like Everything, Sunlight, Lightning Song. Calamity Song by The Decemberists is a guaranteed smile. Surrounded, Solitary Shell by DT. Bound by Gravity by Haken. Most of Karmakanic.

I actually considered sending something terrible, so that we would laugh at the song, but I did not.

Ok guys, before posting the results I want to apologize with you because evidently I wasn't clear with what I was looking for this round. I thought the list of songs I put as an example would help guide you but going back through the thread I realize some of you might have missed that comment.

Round 4

Scar: Opeth - Faith in Others

I enjoyed this one a little bit better than the previous Opeth song, I think mostly due to the string arrangements and the nice guitar melodies. The somber mood in this one is very well crafted and explored. This is still not my cup of tea but I found it to be very interesting nonetheless.

Score: 5

Round 5

TAC: The Sweet - AC/DC

Pretty standard song, good ol rock and roll but nothing really special. I got a bit bored of it after a couple of listens because it’s repetitive and has nothing special to offer really.

Score: 3

Fluffy Lothario Movits! - Sammy Davis Jr.

Well, this is not something I would sit down and listen to, wouldn’t be bothered by it if it was being played in the background, but it’s not the kind of music I dig. As with the previous song, it’s a bit repetitive and doesn’t offer anything special to me.

Score: 3

Elite: Ben Folds Five - One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces

I think people have sent me this band before for the smiling round in one of my previous roulettes, I think it was DTVT and unfortunately it achieved more or less the same result. I’m a sucker for a good piano, but here it’s just a bit meh, I feel like they’re not taking advantage of how awesome this instrument is. The rest of the band doesn’t do anything for me either.

Score: 3

Big Hath: Snarky Puppy - Amour t’es la

Another song that just really doesn’t do it for me. French music has always been one of those things that doesn’t bother me but doesn’t do anything for me either. I will say though the drum section in the middle is quite nice, but that’s as much as I could enjoy this song.

Score: 4

Train of Naught: Closure in Moscow - Seeds of Gold

This song started pretty good and for a moment I though it could go into and interesting place but then it turned out to be a pretty standard song. It has some nice guitar, I’ll give you that and it changes enough that it’s not boring however it doesn’t do anything interesting enough to catch my attention and make me want to listen to more.

Score: 4

twosuitsluke: Frank Turner - Photosynthesis

Another song that got me interested as soon as it started but before 30 seconds pass it’s a train wreck. The cadence of the song throws me off and I don’t like the guy’s voice. It does have some interesting string arrangements here and there.

Score: 3

Tomislav95: Arcade Fire - Rebellion(lies)

I really enjoyed this one from the get go. Even though the melodies are a bit repetitive they’re used to create a nice atmosphere, and when the rest of the band comes in just adds a nice new layer to everything. I enjoyed the violin quite a bit, it adds a nice touch whenever it comes in. Not exactly what I was looking for but it did the trick. Bonus point for you.

Score: 7

King: A.C.T - A Truly Gifted Man

This song has an interesting mix of things, at first I thought it was going to be the regular rock/reggae tune but I was pleasantly wrong. The song is very fun, it mixes both styles quite well and has some very good wind arrangements which as I said before I usually don’t enjoy, but they fall perfectly in line here. I especially love the instrumental in the middle, it’s very different from the rest of the song but it doesn’t feel out of place at all. Bonus point here for getting a smile out of me.

Score: 8

Scar: Jimmy Eat World - The Middle

Another song that just doesn’t do anything for me, it’s pretty standard by all means.

Score: 3

Sacul: Lord Huron - Ends of the Earth

This is a nice soothing song, it really made me relax. I’m having a hard time pinpointing exactly what I like about it, I think it’s the overall mood. It’s pretty enjoyable. This is more along the lines of what I was looking for but it fell a bit short.

Score: 5

Me and Tomi both played each other our songs we'd sent in the plug.dj room last night. I secretly thought mine was better, how wrong I was  :lol

I'm going for 2/10 next round!
