Round 6 resultsI managed to slog through and finish this round!!
I feel kind of bad for some of you guys in this round. I feel you may have been struggling to find a song to match the theme and sent songs that you would never normally send. When/if I ever do another roulette I don't think I will do a themed round like this again. Anywhoooooooooooo, on to the scores..................
Home
Wrestler: Heavy Henry the "Flaming Goose"
Song: Vulfpeck - Funky DuckI remember seeing this song once before as you'd linked it in your roulette as a good example of how you like your short songs. Well, we said your run of consistently good scores would end eventually, I think your time has come. You really went for the ridiculous, novelty type of wrestler entrance. I can kinda see why you sent it and I did say to go as ridiculous as you wanted. It certainly lives up to it's name and it is funky as hell. I really don't dislike it, it's just very short and due to the lyrics it comes across as 'novelty' or something that is attempting to go viral. That kind of thing turns me off as I know it wouldn't have any staying power for me. It is entertaining and I love the singers vocal delivery. I just got what I wanted from it after about 3 listens and don't feel the urge to listen to anymore.
Your wrestler gimmick wasn't bad and it linked in with your song. This wasn't the sort of thing I imagined getting but in the context of a ridiculous character that fans (or other wrestlers) don't take seriously, it's kind of perfect.
5/10Sacul
Wrestler: Smash Mouther
Song: Death Grips - I Break Mirrors with My Face in the United StatesThis one is quite hard to rank. I can totally see why you sent it for this round. It's really short, which isn't really a bad thing, but it doesn't have much in its run time that I really like. It's too repetitive on a few different counts. It's just not my thing, at all. As always, I appreciate the risk, but it didn't pay off this time.
Your wrestler gimmick was ok but lacked some of the detail that helped make some of the others so good.
5.5/10Scar
Wrestler:
Song: The Pretty Reckless - Going to HellIsn't this the band fronted by the girl who was in The Grinch? This is actually the sort of thing (and maybe the only song sent) that I could see the WWE actually using. That doesn't mean it's what I'm looking for though. This feels very generic, radio friendly rock/metal. I'm quite picky with my female fronted metal, I know sex sells but I dubious of metal bands that use sex to sell. That's what pop music is about and I think credible music doesn't need anything but the music alone to sell it. Anyway, I'm not saying that is the case with this band but I'm suspicious that it is. It's ok but it doesn't have any surprises or, other than a few guitar parts, any parts I really like. Just not quite my thing.
You didn't actually get around to sending me a wrestler gimmick so unfortunately you missed out on bonus points.
5.5/10Tomislav95
Wrestler: Hammer the Motivator
Song: Vision of Disorder - ElementThis song is one that I feel you sent because you were trying to fit the theme, but wouldn't have ever sent otherwise (don't know, I might be wrong). I haven't really listened to this kind of hardcore for years. I used to listen too a bit of Hatebreed and this sounds fairly similar. It fits the theme but I'm not really looking for this kind of music nowadays. This isn't bad, it's just kind of standard hardcore. It does what it says on the tin.
Your wrestler gimmick was kind of cool wasn't as fully developed as some of the others.
5.5/10Stadler
Wrestler: The Atomic Punk
Song: Atomic PunkI know some of the famous VH songs, obviously, but have never heard a full album. As someone who LOVES the sound of electric guitar, and whose ear is always drawn to it, I always thought I should appreciate VH more than I do. This all sounds nice and the guitar work is the centrepiece for me but it doesn't quite 'get' me. I suppose it's hard listening to a band that inspired so many other bands. If I had heard this when it was released (or as a child, before hearing any other metal) then I'm sure I'd have a totally different view. This is a pretty solid song.
Your wrestler gimmick didn't have a great deal of depth but I'm pretty sure he would've looked cool, based on your description.
6/10Shadow Ninja
Wrestler: The Viking
Song: Tyr - By the Sword in My HandI've had a fair few battle metal songs in this roulette. I find that they can often all sound similar. This kind of falls into this category. It sounds ok and I don't dislike it but I suppose I have my fix of this sort of music in my library already. I haven't really sought out any new music in this style for years. On the plus side it has a pretty good solo, which is always a selling point for me. It's solid and the score represents that.
As far as the theme goes, your choice of wrestler name is obviously quite uninspired. I'm not sure if you struggled to think of a name or weren't really into the theme (either is fine) but I'm sure it's no surprise that you didn't get a bonus point.
6/10Scorpion
Wrestler: The Neon Wolf
Song: Pathfinder - The Lord of WolvesHere we have another epic power metal song. Power metal is certainly a risk for me. The two power metal style songs that I have given 9/10's so far have had something that made them really stand out, for me at least. I'm not sure I remember seeing a wrestler enter to power metal to be honest but I can see why you sent it. I can't find too much to say about this. It's ok and solid enough but I've heard plenty of songs that do this better, for me.
Your wrestler gimmick was one of the better ones and only narrowly missed out on being the #1. I like that he dyes the hair of his opponent if he beats them and forces them to take selfies with him. That's the sort of weird crap that happens in wrestling sometimes.
6/10Elite
Wrestler: The Sawmill Yeller
Song: Losers - ChainsawThis starts of sounding like it could be The Prodigy or something. It's not necessarily what I would listen to but I don't actively dislike any of it. It strikes me as something you may not have sent in any other round. It has some parts to it's overall sound that I like but is just not my sort of thing. I'm not a huge fan of the vocals and the rest just kind of leaves me cold. However, I think it works really well in the context of the theme.
Your wrestler gimmick is kind of cool and it actually works really well with your choice of song.
6/10Parama
Wrestler: Sergeant of the Parama Corps
Song: East of the Wall - FleshmakerI checked out THAT album by these guys last year, I thought it was ok but I wasn't really eager to listen again. This song however felt a little different. The harsh vocals definitely have a Mastodon feel. I really like the more melodic parts in this and the clean vocals. I must admit on the first few listens this song didn't really stand out to much. It has a sound that I dig but it nothing in particular jumps out and grabs my attention, I just feel like I'm waiting for the part that makes this song awesome, but it doesn't come. Saying that, the drumming is a highlight. I don't know, it's a hard one to rank. I think I still need more listens to get it or I need to her the whole album to appreciate it more.
I really like your wrestler name, you've thought about it and thrown a bit of a pun in there. Even after your initial lack of enthusiasm you've done pretty good.
6.5/10Splent
Wrestler: The Professor
Song: Electric Light Orchestra - Fire on HighI quite like the eerie intro and it sort of works for this round. I've always been aware of ELO but never listened to them. Their name very well describes their sound and I could see them being the sort of classic rock band that I would like. I like the synths, I like the guitars when they come in, I like the strings. It has a powerful, epic feel to it. It hasn't really stood out when listening too much but as I write this I find myself digging most of what I hear. It feels dated, which can often be a turn off for me, but it doesn't suffer too much.
Your wrestler gimmick could do with a little fleshing out and I'm not sure it works well with your choice of song.
7/10WebRaider
Wrestler: Venom
Song: Killer be Killed - Snakes of JehovahI checked out a few songs when this album was released. As a fan of Max Cavelera and Mastodon I was looking forward to hearing what they did. I'm aware of the other guys as well but not really fans of their respective bands. This is certainly a good song and will surely be getting round to blasting the album in the near future. This has a Max Cavelera feel to the riffs but it has the added bonus of including two other vocalists into the mix. I love the contrast in their voices. I have never really listened to mush by TDEP so I'm not sure if this is Greg's usual style of vocal or not. Either way, I like it. This sounds like I want them to sound, it sounds like a good mix of the band members and it doesn't end up a mess. It's kind of straight forward but I dig it.
You clearly put in the most effort with your gimmick. You even came up with your own finishing move (which nobody else did). I feel you may be the only wrestling fan here.
7.5/10Train of Naught
Wrestler: The Trainwreck
Song: Twelve Foot NinjaHa! I love the little skit at the start of this song. Having lived, worked and travelled in Australia for a year I can say I have seen those sort of Aussie stereotypes first hand. It almost reminds me of something from Little Britain as well. Anyway, onto the song. I became aware of these guys (thanks to Spotify) earlier this year. I checked out the odd song but I don't think I heard this. This song was quite easily my favourite of the round. I think the video definitely helped as it made me actually quite liked the band based on their humour and not taking themselves too seriously. It has some serious djent going on, which I can be quite picky with, but the vocals are really cool. The chorus also manages to be catchy, epic and anthemic. This is definitely not the best song of the roulette so far but in this round it was easily the highlight. I love how this goes from some really crushing, heavy riffs to the funky little breakdowns and back again.
Your wrestler gimmick was one of the better ones and kind of fits well with the song you chose.
8.5/10Now for the bonus points.......drumroll!
Best wrestler entrance theme: Ok, I couldn't decide so I'm going for a three way tie. The best entrance themes are Train's, Home's and Elite's.
Trains works so well because it comes in with a gong, has the vocal coming in just behind and I could really picture it working.
Home's would work for his ridiculous character. It's very distinctive and I could see someone strutting down to the ring accompanied by this song.
Elite's just has a distinctive opening that would be instantly recognisable and works really well.
You all get a bonus point
Best wrestler gimmick: WebRaider takes best gimmick as he went all out. This was from his PM -
"VENOM" is very mysterious and dark and you're never sure if you can trust him no matter if he's a heel or babyface (fan favorite) as he can and will strike anyone who gets in his way.
This special Venom (comic) inspired paint would be his look.
To sort of honor other 'Snake' contemporaries of the past in wrestling I want something quick strike like Jake "The Snake" Roberts DDT but also to show how the VENOM sets in would go with something like the Cobra Clutch (originally Sgt. Slaughter). So I'll go with this awesome Cobra Clutch Backbreaker (shown by wrestler The Big Show). The quick strike (snake like) of the backbreaker part and then the cinching in of the venom and putting them to sleep with the Cobra Clutch sleeper part at the end. We'll call it the Venom's Bite.

Finally the intro song... It's a great song IMO from -supergroup- Killer Be Killed called "Snakes of Jehovah"... it sets up great with the crashing beginning and will have everyone's hair standing on end knowing that VENOM is coming. A vicious song that ends with the chanting of "MURDER!" It's a -killer- song that just fits perfectly here. Also the girl in the video can be VENOM's valet/manager carrying multiple snakes with her at all times (sort of like in the video). This combination will take down all other competitors!

I think you can all agree he earned this point. Well done dude, +1 bonus point for you.
Best theme/gimmick combo: I'm gonna go with Elite for this. Although I wasn't a particular fan of your song dude I feel that your combo works really well. +1 bonus point for you.
