Why is the cardinals there

It was a charity dinner that the catholics hold with both major party candidates.
All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again

Well, even though I'm from St. Louis, I would be asking why other baseball teams weren't invited. Seems suspicious.

Especially since they're in New York.

This.  It's a regular thing, held annually, and during election years, it is traditional for both major party candidates to attend and be sociable and tell jokes about themselves.  Of course, Trump didn't get the entire memo, and behaved like it was a normal stump speech, and promptly offended the entire crowd.

Oh...OK....but still why is the Catholic there? And why does the church hold the dinner? They try so hard to keep separation of church and state yet hold these....I don't know.

You all can label me but I hold my beliefs that this is all nothing but fake Shit.

This is exactly what isn't meant by separation of church and state.

Because it's to raise money for Catholic Charities.

It's the laws then?

Okay...but it still irks me that they can laugh at all the atrocities they've done.

Still not sure what you are confused with. "The Catholic" as you called him is there because it was a fundraiser to raise money for Catholic Charities.

It's like having a fundraiser for the YMCA and wondering why some dude from the YMCA is there...

I don't get what you don't get.

Maybe read up on it.  It's the Alfred Smith Charity Dinner.  It has nothing to do with church & state.

Why? I am honestly mystified.

It's a charity event.  It's every year around the same time.  It always draws a crowd of wealthy influential Catholics, including famous people.  There is always a keynote speaker from entertainment/business/politics/etc, and it is often done in a humorous, self-deprecating fashion.  During election years, they invite both major party candidates to participate, and due to the timing of the dinner (which, again, is always the same time every year), it is usually after the last debate, and is therefor the last time that the candidates appear together at the same event.

Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.
