The thing with that album is that it's not that special, it sounds like every other album released in 1975. Until you check the date on the sleeve and see that it was released in 1971. That's what makes it so special...

Still one of the greatest rock albums of all time.  All killer, no filler.
Hef is right on all things. Except for when I disagree with him. In which case he's probably still right.

I wouldn't say no filler. Misty Mountain Hop is easily at the bottom of the rankings. I'm not keen on Four Sticks either but the rest of it is really great.

If an album only has 8 songs - you want it to be 100% amazing. Not 6 great tracks and 2 not so great ones.

Like Master of Puppets.

Led Zep 4 is more like Ride The Lightning. Amazing album .. .but has Escape and Trapped Under Ice.

I guess you have to be old enough around that time when every song from that album had radio play.  There is only a rare few albums where every song gets radio play. That's why it's looked at as a no filler album.

Good thing we're talking about Led Zeppelin IV and not some trash with only 6 great tracks and 2 not so great ones.

Misty Mountain Hop is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!!!

1. Misty Mountain Hop
2. When the Levee Breaks
3. The Battle of Evermore
4. Black Dog
5. Rock and Roll
6. Stairway to Heaven
7. Going to California
8. Four Sticks

But they are all great!

hehe tastes and all that. Stairway and Levee are obviously classics.

It reminded me a bit of The Police albums - where you have THE HITS which Sting wrote and then absolute drivel like Mother! That Andy And Stewart wrote.

Not saying Misty...is absolute drivel but it doesnt match the other 6 songs. Theres usually a reason why the well known songs are the well known songs.

Definitely the case with The Police though.

Except no one liked "Mother" from the Police.   Seriously,  no one.

But The Police have a lot of deep cuts that are great, not only the well known hits.

Okay, Mother isn't one of them, but still.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

While never a favorite, I never minded Mother.  Synchronicity was the first vinyl I ever owned at the age of 10, and I listened to it more times than I can count.  Mother always struck me as being an odd song, but I never skipped over it.

Even Andy Summers' mom didn't like it.

The thing about Zeppelin, at least up here in the Northeast, was that you could LITERALLY hear ANY Zeppelin song from I through Graffiti on the radio at any given time, depending on the time of day, the format and the station.  They weren't limited to the "hits" or the singles (which there, technically, weren't any).

WPLR in New Haven (the station I listened to most) always had blocs - you know, a "Get The Led Out" kind of thing - where they'd play anything.

I guess you have to like them to think this, but for my money, from I to Graffiti, there are only a handful of songs that are "filler".  Honestly, only really "Hats Off To Roy Harper" fits that bill.

1. Stairway to Heaven
2. Going to California
3. When the Levee Breaks
4. The Battle of Evermore
5. Misty Mountain Hop
6. Rock and Roll
7. Four Sticks
8. Black Dog

HOTRH and D'yer Mak'er are the only two Zeppelin songs that are 'meh' for me.  Replace the former with Hey Hey What Can I Do, and Zeppelin III becomes a Top3 of all-time album for me.

I don't know, I love them both for their weirdness. But then, weird Zeppelin is kind of my thing. The Crunge, for example, is fantastic. ;D

I will say though that using Immigrant Song in Thor Ragnarok was just...:chefs Kiss:

Absolutely PERFECT.

One of the best trailers for a film i've ever seen too.

I’m okay with Hats Off. Just not too thrilled that they chose to close the album with it.

AGREED!   My daughter and I actually rewound that part and watched it again on the surround sound.  Amazing, and one of my favorite moments in the Marvel universe.

That was in Waititi's original pitch to Marvel.  it was a big factor in him getting the job.
