okay >18 then sheesh  :P
Keep dreeming  ;D Tbh, there's only one song this round I'm considering giving 18 points at the moment. But then again some of these songs are quite a lot to digest so I expect them to grow a bit more still.

Round 8 Results!  :hat

Scorpion: Aisles: Club Hawaii - Falling - In the Probe 14/20

I love how they set the setting with a small conversation and end with a question and then reply with music. The music starts nice and proggy. I’m not too sure about the opera like vocals. The wackiness in some of these passages is really great. I like how it’s getting a little more intense near the end of Club Hawaii, but the vocals do fail a little to transfer that. The crazy ending is very good though xd
The vocals do fit the beautiful piano in Falling, despite being so short I’m pretty sure this song is my favourite of the three.
In the probe is by far my least part, the vocals feel almost a little winery and I feel it just lingers on for too long. I’m sorry to sound so negative about this part as I did really like the first two songs.

I feel sorry to cut you as you’ve been at the  for most of the roulette and gave me so many songs to check out. I’m really looking forward to listening to the albums, thanks a lot for playing!

Train of Naught
: Chaosbay: Prologue - Three Brothers (Will You Marry Me) – Arrow One (Raise the Veil) 15/20

Really love the feel in prologue, it starts nice and atmospheric. The heavy part is pretty good too, not too big a fan of the mix here though, it sounds a little blurry, or perhaps a bit too pushing, especially in the intro of three brothers. The vocals are pretty nice, not so sure about the distorted effect at some parts but the chorus part is pretty epic. Cool djenty part at the end of three brothers, I like how it’s alternated with some nice melodic metal.
Some nice grooves at the start of Arrow One, and a pretty nice chorus too. The instrumental part feels not too special but I do really love the more atmospheric part after it.
Overall I liked this song, but it doesn’t stand out as much as some of the other songs sent this round, also I’m just not a fan of the mix

I was pretty sure you were going to make it to the ep round, but there was some tough competition this round. Still looking forward to that playlist of songs you made. Thanks for playing Train!

Elite: Flaming Row: Lea’s Delivery – Elinoire – Rage of Despair 15/20

This really gives me a Dream Theater vibe from the start, nice.  I really love the middle part of Lea’s Delivery too, especially the part where there are multiple voices/melodies at the same time, that’s really beautiful. Love how they use different singers for different characters in a true Ayreon like fashion. Elinoire does lose my attention for a moment but the guitar solo really makes up for it , really melodic solo’s like this. So for the vocals were really y favourite part of the songs but I do really not dig the “harsh” vocals in Rage of Despair, the chorus is pretty nice though. It  kind of has that epic power metal sound.  The instrumental section at the bridge is pretty good. Overall I liked these three songs, besides the harsh vocals in Rage of Despair and will definitely listen to the whole album.

Thanks a lot for playing Elite! Looking really forward to listening to more of Ghost for one, and also to Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band.

Parama: Oceansize - The Frame 17/20

I wasn’t too big a fan of the intro at first but I’ve come to really like it, after multiple listens it really gives me this feeling of expectation/anticipations of what’s to come. I do like the way gradually things are added, creating a really beautifully, slightly melancholic atmosphere with vocals fitting it just perfectly. I just love the chorus, it’s really beautiful. Really love the middle part too, really interesting sound with the floating vocals: I am not the picture, now I'm... Awesome how they repeat that melody with the guitar and make it really heavy. Overall I really love this song, the composition is not even that special, it’s almost a kind of drawn out verse-chorus, verse-chorus, bridge but it works great and doesn’t get boring at all.

Sacul: Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Storm 18/20

They somehow manage to set this beautiful atmosphere in just a few seconds. I just love the strings here and how they get louder, oh it’s just pure beauty when the drums join in here. They keep this part up for quite some time but it really doesn’t get boring, on the contrary even it really put me in this almost trance like state.
The songs does meander on for a bit when that part ends at about the seven minute mark, before gradually building up intensity again. It takes some time but it’s so damn good again. At around 12 minutes the song takes quite a twist, switching beauty for a very intense, and almost quite creepy sound.
The samples is really great, I’m not sure actually what they want to say with it, I like how it’s barely eligible and almost just serves as a background for some really subtle but beautiful piano. This song really feels like a journey, with both ugliness and beauty in it, and that despite quite some repetitive part’s just keeps giving more to discover.

Tomislav: Stoned Jesus – I’m The Mountain 18/20

I really love the acoustic intro, my only complaint in the whole song is that the singers voice sounds a little weak here but it fits the feel. I like how it slows down before transitioning in the next part. The melody here, the one that returns quite often is really really beautiful, I’m just not getting tired of it at all. This part builds up in a way I really like, getting nice and heavy, love the thick guitar tones too.  The song then goes in way softer territory again before returning to a beautifully heavy sound again. The vocals feel as one of the weakest part but I just love it when the singer belts out I’M THE MOUNTAIN at about 10 minutes, that followed by some intense guitars is really my favourite moment of the song. Yeah you’re on a roll Tomislav, really looking forward to your EP.

Score:

6 Scorpion:               60+14=74
5 Elite:                      58,5+16=74,5
4 Train of Naught    60,25+15=75,25
---------------------------------
3 Parama:                 59+17=76
2 Sacul:                    58,25+18=76,25
1 Tomislav95:           59,5+18=77,5

The top three can send me an EP:
Minimum length 25 minutes, maximum length 35 minutes. You have to put in songs from at least three different artists and can put in max two songs per artist. The score will be the average of the songs (which are each scored out of 10 points) times three, plus the flow (which will be scored out of 5). The maximum amount of points you can get in this round is thus 35.

For the other three: Thanks again!

That really depends on the song, if it fits/works than it's fine, like in Neutral Milk Hotels Holland, 1945 or the last part of The King of Carrot Flowers I think the noisy production almost adds something to the song. But especially with (prog)metal I usually prefer clear/breathy productions. Though noice works sometimes I guess...

yeah expect results in about two weeks, I got a lot of work to do before the holidays start. It's better to actually have the time to write the write ups.. On the positive side this will give the songs plenty of time to grow :azn:
