Good stuff, I was starting to have serious doubts. My song is seriously something that I find hard to believe people would find boring. You never know though. Everyone except me has weird tastes!!

Round 2 results!  :hat

Evermind: Jon Lord - Pictured Within   6.25

It’s a very pretty song but it just doesn’t seem to really reach me. The middle section with strings is quite beautiful but I can’t get into the rest. I feel like I should like this song a lot more, I mean it’s a big name and all but I am sorry to say I find this song rather boring. It’s almost a little… cheesy? Perhaps it was more original when it was released, idk. Looking forward to what you’ll send though, after this round Lighthouse is still my favourite song of the roulette!

Twosuitsluike: Rx Bandits - Meow! Meow! Space Tiger: 7.25
It’s a pretty radio friendly poppy song. Nothing to dislike but again not too much about it to love either. I do really like the part starting at about 1:00, shame it’s so short. On the whole It’s got some really nice happy vibes that just don’t do a lot for me. I do enjoy this song a lot more than the song you send in the previous round! I hope the next song will be even better  :tup

Tyrias  Oh Hiroshima - Holding Rivers         7.5 +1 (Psychedelic)
This has a very nice floaty atmosphere for most of the song. The middle sections is a little too drawn out I think though, although the violin adds really nice touch.. I am usually not a big fan of ‘normal’ singing in post-rock but the repetitive vocal lines here actually work really well! They are not too distracting which is great for this kind of music as I can still really enjoy it while doing for example homework. All in all It’s a pretty competently written post-rock song but I do feel that it lacks something to make it stand out from the countless other post-rock bands.

Train of Naught: The Reign of Kindo - Let it go       7.5   +1       (Piano)

I felt I quite indifferent to this song at first but this song also grew quite a lot on me. This has some pretty chill vibes. The singing has got a very pleasant voice, I really love his singing,  especially in the part starting from 2:50. There is also some really nice piano in the background. My only “complaint” is that it, despite being over 5 minutes long, it never really strays from it’s safe/jazz-poppy sound. The trumpet near the end is great though. I liked this song a bit better than the previous song you sent and look forward to the next song!

Elite : Obsidian Kingdom - Away / Absent   7.75
I remember listening to Mantiis a long time ago but I couldn’t get through it I think. (don’t remember much of it) This is a lot better than what I do remember though. The drumming although for the first part of the song, quite simple and repetitive works really well. Some really nice grooves throughout the song. I feel that some of the softer sections lack a little substance sometimes. I just love the more intense sections however, they me a little of Karnivool which is a great thing. I’ll give this album a chanse sometime!

Tomislav95: Woods of Ypres – I was buried in mount pleasant cemetery 8 +1      (Piano)
This starts with a really nice piano intro which does a great job of setting the atmosphere. The heavy part following it has slightly monotonous but quite catchy vocals. I like how the heaviness goes together with the piano here. I really love the part from three and a half minute on. The high melody there is really nice and complements the vocals, which lack an interesting melody, really well. I am not a big fan of the guttural vocals near the end though they do fit I guess. All in all a pretty solid song!

Luoto: Pressure Points - Electric Shadows       8   +1  (Piano)
The growls at the start are indeed quite intelligible and are pretty great \m/ At start this song has a very Opeth like feel but quickly strays into territory Opeth wouldn’t stray into. I really love the vocal melodies from the clean part after it. I get some Pain of Salvation vibes from that “she isn’t crying, not yet part”  The piano break is pretty nice aswel. Nothing to complain about this on, it’s a pretty solid prog-metal song that sounds really fresh compared to a lot of other bands in the genre.

Scorpion; Riverside - The Depth of Self-Delusion   8

I’ve heard some songs of this band before (not this song though) but have never really checked them out. Well, this song convinced me to finally check out this band! I love the singers voice there is something about it that really touches me. The intense part with some kind of effect over the vocals is pretty great and reminds me a little of Porcupine Tree, the whole song does a little actually. They have that same emotional, proggy but not too technical feel. Still based on this song Riverside does have a unique sound, this is a solid song!

Parama: Slice the Cake - The Lantern          8.25   (Spoken Word)
The acoustic guitar part at the start of the song is pretty good. The best thing about this song is the singer though, I just love the emotion in his voice when he’s not singing. I like how his voice is just getting more rougher and intenser  ending in a harsh vocal/blast beat section I wouldn’t really like normally but with this build up it’s just a perfect release of energy. Then follows again a really nice acoustic guitar part followed by again a pretty good intense part ending a little suddenly but that’s undoubtly because it’s supposed to be followed by part 2.

Sacul  Saltillo - A Hair on the Head of John the Baptist   8.75   (Spoken Word)

This song creeped me out slighly on my first listen but grew on me a lot and actually turned out to be my favourite song of this round. The atmosphere throughout the song is just so great.  I love the use of samples (though slightly pretentious), The classicalis violin part with electronic drums at the 2 minute mark is quite beautiful. I love how this song almost dies down completely near the end and then comes back once more. It’s not a revolutionary thing to do, but there’s something about how it’s done in this song that’s just really good . I don’t think I’ve ever heard something that sounds similar to this, man you might have opened me up to a whole new genre. Thanks Sacul!

So by round 2 9 of you already used the piano bonus :p The scores have been shuffled quite a bit with Evermind taking a huge drop, Sacul climbing to the top and rising from 10 to 6. I really liked the variation in this round, I can’t wait to hear the songs for next round! Please send before monday so I can start listening next week.

Well, on the bright side being quite far behing means I have nothing too lose and can send stuff I normally wouldn't cause there's not that much to lose.

In a slightly related note, what's your opinion on electronic dance music?

Great that you liked Riverside! Checking them out is definitely recommended, though I wouldn't recommend starting with SONGS (which is the album The Depth of Self-Delusion is on) - I'd say good starting points are either the debut, Second Life Syndrome or ADHD.

Also, sent Lady Gaga - Perfect Illusion.
