Yes! I've exams this week, so no time for Hangmanen. I'll post results near the end of the week and hopefully tidbits before that.

Yep, I'm ready to be put out of my misery now  :lol

I've done terribly in this roulette, just give me my 1 bonus point and I'll leave without causing a scene.

Sorry for all the delay, here are the results!  ;D

Luoto: Oddland – Above and beyond 6.75 +1 (Djent)

Some nice rhythms at the start, I really don’t like the sound here though, it sounds really un-dynamic/compressed (not sure about the right term) , which makes it just not very pleasant too listen too for me. The singer sound great when he adds some grit like at the beyond meeee parts. The guitar solo is quite melodic which I really like. There are some really solid rhythms in this song but I feel it lacks something to make it really stand out, and there’s something about the sound which I just don’t really like, sorry :/

Tomislav: The Antlers – Palace 7.25

Another song were I thought had a female singer, but it actually is a man. :lol He has quite a feminine voice though (which is not a complaint btw, I quite like his voice). The melodies at the start are pretty beautiful, the addition of a trumpet is nice too. I would say this song feels a bit the same throughout the whole song, especially for a song that’s over 5 and a half minutes long I expected  a bit more variation.

Scorpion: Arcane – Unturning   7.25 +1 (Djent)

I’m really not too big a fan of the guitar at the intro, it’s almost a little annoying. I guess I’d like it more if it was a little bit softer in the mix or perhaps a bit more dynamic, but now it just takes the attention away from the vocals, which are pretty good. I do start to really like the song from2 minutes on. The singer reminds me a little of the singer from Haken at some parts. I love the build up after it has died down to just vocals and a little bit of guitar. The ending is really good. Scoring this song isn’t easy though, mixed feelings, I don’t like the first part at all, but the rest of the song is pretty good.

Sacul: Marketa Irglova - This Right Here 7.5

I really like the piano in this, it’s not too special but the melodies are really nice. The singer has a very pleasant voice too. Just a really nice song overall, but it doesn’t stand out that much. Though I don’t really feel that it should, it works good like this. I am not too sure about that extra part at the end. It’s okay but feels a bit disconnected from the rest of the song. Perhaps it fits with the lyrics?

Tyrias: Tango With Lions – A Long Walk 7,5

I like the combination of electric and acoustic guitar in the intro. I really like how it builds up in the bridge and then dies down almost completely in the end. The brass at the end works really good and sets the ending apart from the rest of the song. Overall it’s a pretty simple song with the verses based on just two different chords, but the mood is just really nice!

Twosuitsluke: Alice in Chains – Them Bones  8 + 1 (short song)

I like how this song directly starts full throttle, those Aaahs are a pretty nice addition. It jumps in to a catchy chorus pretty quickly. The guitar solo doesn’t really stand out but it works. This song is over before you know it, I feel like the length is actually one of the strengths of this song. It’s a pretty standard composition I probably would grow tired of it a lot faster if it was longer. But right now it’s a very nice short burst of energy which I really like!

Parama: Casualties of Cool – Flight 8

This starts really mysterious which I like followed by a very pleasant guitar. The female singer has a very nice voice which works great with Devin Townsends voice. I love I really like that there’s quite a lot of subtle stuff in the background. I wonder if that weird sound on the with my coliiiision is on purpose? Normally I am not too much a fan of a fade-out outro but I guess it works quite well here, with the atmospheric sounds taking over a little. Overall I just love the atmosphere in this!

Evermind - Árstíðir - Síðasta kveðjan 8.25

The piano at the start is really beautiful, low the few dissonant chords sprinkled throughout. Same as with the Solstafir song I got last round, I quite like that I can’t understand the vocals, it does add some kind of mystery. The melodies are really touching. I really love the cello? near the end that sound really epic. Thanks for  sending something that’s not power metal. I really enjoyed this song!

Train of Naught: Gojira – Born In Winter 8.5

So this is the whale core band right? I really dig the atmosphere in the intro, the low vocals really help set the mood. The screams in the distance during this part are pretty good too. My only slight criticism is that it stay’s a little too long in the same atmosphere before getting more intense,  bur when it does, it’s just epic, wow!  I love how intense it suddenly gets. The way the double base is used sparingly to add some extra force is just perfect. The heavy part of this song was easily my favourite bit of this round. The songs ends way too soon for me, I wouldn’t mind more of that heavy part.

Elite: Ghost B.C. – Cirice 8.5

I really like the intro riff, it has a really nice build up to the heavy riff after it. The singers voice is very pleasant to listen to, he sounds quite sensitive during the piano break, but fits the heavy parts really well too. I love the soft parts in between, making this song pretty dynamic. The solo is very melodic, which fits really well too. Not much too complain about this song, I really enjoyed listening to this song every time!

Score:

10 Twosuitsluike:         37,5 + 9 = 46,5 XXX
9 Evermind                  39 + 8,25 = 47,25 XX
8 Luoto:                 40,25 + 7.75 = 48 XXX
7 Tyrias                   41,25 + 7,5 = 48,75 XX
6 Tomislav95:           41,75 + 7.25 = 49 XX
5 Elite:                      41,75 + 8,5 = 50,25 XX
4 Sacul:                    43,5 + 7,5 = 51 XXX
3 Parama:                  43 + 8 = 51 XXX
2 Train of Naught         42,75 + 8,5 = 51,25 XXX
1 Scorpion:               44 + 8.25 = 52,25 XXX

Overall I think it’s one of the lesser round of this roulette, but it still had some really good songs. Again excuses for taking so long with this round, I followed two extra courses this first period and I kind of underestimated how much time that costed. Now that the exams are over the next rounds should go a little faster :azn:  Also since this is the last round for four of you, I’d make sure to use your last bonus point if you haven’t already this round. In case of a tie, the person with the lowest scoring song of the persons in the tie will get cut. Please send before the end of the weekend!, I’ll do hangmanen next week!  :hat

Alright then, with my extra bonus point, I'm actually tied for second place, so I have to screw up not to make it to the final rounds. I'll think of what to send and send it soon.

Wow! I was quietly confident about the chorus but I was dreading negative comments about the (admittedly, slightly absurd) sudden ending. I wish it lasted a bit longer, but I love that song. The more mellow parts are not too representative of their sound but if you like the vocals in the chorus you would likely dig their more loved-by-DTF albums like The Way of all Flesh and From Mars to Sirius.

I already hinted at my next submission in plug.dj once, I think, sending now anyway.

EDIT: Sent :corn in this roulette more than any other I'm pretty shocked this hadn't been sent in any of the previous rounds already.
