I don't know, maybe because it's the same mic that captured the sound of keybord and guitar? When they played, the sound was big. Anyway, very cool video! It seems almost like the way they demoed the songs.

The very first opening shot is of the Arcimboldi theatre in Milan where I saw them, yay!

Cool.  I love this kind of thing.  Even though some of the musical explanation is a bit too deep for me, it's still pretty informative.

Besides it being recorded with a room mic, it was a very enjoyable video. I can't wait for the other episodes. This was a nice surprise to see on a Monday.

Is he talking to DTF at this timestamp?

https://youtu.be/1HSOba4cERE?t=6m5s

 :lol

Pretty cool video, I think I would enjoy it a whole lot more if it was more "professionally done" if you can say, as in better mic and the music they are playing was a bit more clear.  This would have great potential for bonus material on an official video release, but feels like they just set up a tripod and did it (which is cool and all, just feel like there is so much more potential to this given how awesome the recurring themes are).

Really cool thing for the guys to do, will enjoy watching these. Almost starting to feel guilty about how little I care for the album, given how much JP and JR do care for it.

Actually, it isn't.

All songs on TA are Petrucci-Rudess.

On ADTOE and Dt12, Rudess, Petrucci, JLB and Myong wrote the songs, together or 3 or 2 of them.

So.....

I agree - would like to see them do this sort of thing for other songs/albums once they've completed the series on TA. I think it will help us fans, and especially those critical (of which I can be one at times) of their music to better understand why things are the way they are.

Cheers for them doing this. But yeah, if they could have specific mics they speak into, it would definitely make the videos that much easier to understand.
As a basic rule, if you hate it, you must solely blame Portnoy. If it's good, then you must downplay MP's contribution to the band as not being important anyway, or claim he's just lying. It's the DTF way.

BCSL had instrumental tracks as well as stems.  And I think there were select stems for a couple of songs from ADTOE.  I don't think there were either instrumental tracks or stems for DT12.

Yep.

And it's laughable to call it a Petrucci-Rudess album when you consider how vocal-heavy it is.

I think the box set of ADToE also had instrumental versions of every track too - I don't have it, but I'm sure someone else can confirm or deny.

My guess is an album of this length, adding the extras might be too much.

For me, I'm not a big fan of the instruments only, but I see the appeal and honestly, see the appeal more with this album given the themes.  Maybe they release the instrumentals online in some form at some point.

So you know how much was the participation of Myong and JLB on ADTOE and DT12? No you don't. They might have a big part in it as well as the lyrics.

On TA, it says no credit to anyone but Jordan and Petrucci. So I kind  of believe what they write as credits on their album sleeves as for who create the music and lyrics.

Laugh as much as you want, JLB sings but hasn't write the music or the lyrics as far as I can see.

Who cares?

Since you're a Rush fan, by your rationale, every Rush instrumental is a Lee/Lifeson piece, right?  La Villa Strangiato has some of the most awesome drumming ever, but oops, it's just a Lee/Lifeson piece.

I mean, I really liked TA - although musically speaking, I think it did suffer because they wanted to tell a story. I felt like Arjen's album The Theory of Everything had some similar problems. Although both were stellar, after their first listen through - a lot of the experience of it died off and became less interesting, to me. So out of like 40 something songs (for TA) I only ended up regularly putting on probably 9 or so songs consistently, and beyond that maybe 12 or so if I'm in the mood for certain others.

Now that's pretty good, but whereas I really didn't like D12 much after the initial romance; it's disappointing how much potential I think there was in TA. IMO, if DT had spent 1 - 3 more months polishing it, it could have been really great. I am super excited about the live DVD though, I really want to see it as soon as possible.

Anyway, ignoring that spiel, if TA is anything it's a LaBrie / Petrucci / Rudess album. Not sure how you could exclude LaBrie given how much he is on / puts into the album, and I think it will be even more pronounced when the live version is filmed.

Can I also say that I loved James's Nafaryus style vocals? If we could have more Nafaryus / Victoria (SFAM) / BC and SL cover type vocals, man that would put me in a happy fucking spot.

  God, Ringo wrote all the Beatles songs. You really don't have a clue of what credits to writers are. Filling the songs with you drum beat is not writing the song. But you know that, you are just playing with the words. If it makes you happy.
