Tyrias: Biffy Clyro – Stingin’ Belle

First thought: this is damn heavy. This riff is so pounding, and I guess it’s djenty too? I don’t actually know how exactly djent sounds, but if I hear the weird riff and dislike it, I assume it’s djent, sorry.

...

3/10
:rollin Well it's a pretty low rif with only two powerchords... That's a ridicolous low score though  :P

Round 4 First Impressions

I get that the focus of this is definitely meant to be the vocals, and yeah, the singer sounds pretty good, but everything else here is just not working for me.

Sure takes its time kicking in for real but I don’t mind the atmospheric intro anyways so it’s all good.

Yeah, considering this climax they are pretty much wearing their influences on their sleeve, but I don’t really mind, it’s a nice and beautiful climax with enough power behind it to feel satisfying.

I have no clue how to feel about this, actually. There’s a nice 6/8 feel to this and the melodies are alright but not really gripping me.

This is definitely hitting all the right points with me for this kind of music; atmospheric and gorgeous and easy to get lost in.

It’s definitely a technical whirlwind but they have enough intelligence to break things up with some more chill moments every now and then.

This is probably the first song of the roulette that just feels like a bit much, and it’s not even that wacky or weird, or even really that long, just… too much.

But at the same time, without all the lead playing, this song would probably be really boring, the actual metal on display here is not that impressive.

I don’t know, on first listen this sound both a bit sparse and a bit played out. And the mixing really isn’t helping matters.

My impressions from the intro: “what the hell is this”. And then it kicks in for real and I’m like “oh. that’s what this is.”

It doesn’t really feel like it ever hits any sort of climax, just that it builds to something and then ends.

I think I like the vocals, but I’m not so sure they fit in with the style of music here. It sounds like he should be singing over Iron Maiden-style heavy metal, not what this actually is.

Elite why

Overall: Honestly not feeling a lot of these songs on first listen, there's some good stuff here and a few songs I feel will be growers but there's also several songs from multiple people that just aren't doing much for me at all, or even actively turning me away. We'll see how this turns out, I guess  :lol
