results probably won't happen tonight.

my round 4 rankings are turning out to be total gibberish, I'm 100% sure on one person who's getting the boot, but I'm less certain on the other person. it's down to two songs that are both fairly meh for me, but then everything else is at least solid and generally I'd say this round is superior to last round. but yeah, tomorrow. i have half the writeups done, but i've been basically doing nothing but listening to music all day and just need a break  :lol

side-note: i did check out the woods of ypres and novembre albums. not really sure I'm a fan of woods of ypres yet, mostly just cannot get into the bassy vocals. novembre was pretty solid but I'd probably need to listen deeper to really find out if I'm in to them on the whole

i've also been checking out some stuff from my first roulette, because why not. already placed an order for the dear hunter act 4, and unexpect, shining, and vangough albums i'm probably all gonna get too (though with unexpect not the one i received a song off of because it's literally impssible to find) so that should be fun to torture myself with

for some reason i'm really digging weird/chaotic prog metal stuff rn tho. just an fyi  :corn

Shining are great, been digging their two most recent albums a lot over the last few months. Been trying to get my mate, who's a huge NIN fan into them as their most recent has a real NIN vibe IMO. Just with a side order of crazy sax!

So I think you have placed an order for the album "In A Flesh Aquarium" by Unexpect. It's even weirder than the last one, I still only know the first half of the album because I'm lazy, but there are enough things going on in the first 5-6 songs. I prefer Fables Of The Sleepless Empire (which I have in physical copy at home, I ordered it two years ago via bandcamp), but there are great songs even in In A Flesh Aquarium. The albums before are more metal and less experimental but I never heard it, I hope you purchased In A Flesh Aquarium.
For Vangough, I only know the last album "Between The Madness", I wasn't much impressed by the previous two, I still have to hear them.

The last sentence gives me a bit of hope I'm safe this round, but I still doubt it. :P

@LC ahh, thanks for that. $15 USD or so with the shipping cost which is maybe a bit more than I'd want to pay but I'll check out the album at some point, especially if I find myself really into the one I'm gonna get, but I'm pretty well committed to getting in a flesh aquarium at this point/too lazy to check out the other one really  :lol

Indeed SA is mine. Was choosing between the one I sent; The Worlds Forgotten, The Words Forbidden; The Harvest or Fly With the Black Swan. Basically I picked the oddest songs on Unia and then had to narrow it down to one. :lol

Well their first four albums are all in the same vein, so if you liked Ecliptica, odds are you'll like Silence, Winterheart's Guild and Reckoning Night too. Out of these four, Ecliptica is easily my favourite and Reckoning Night is my second favourite, so if you want some good old power metal, go with Reckoning Night.

Unia (the album from which I've chosen a song for Parama) is definitely the weirdest they've ever recorded, and it's tough to get into, but when you do, it's really rewarding because most of the songs there are complex and brilliant. Took me like six or seven years to get into this one, to be honest.

I would also recommend considering to check out The Days of Grays, which is a follow-up to Unia. It's the darkest Sonata Arctica album, and while a lot of people seem to kind of disregard it and say it's not that good, I think it's up there with their best - but that could be just because I like some sad and dark music (though it's obviously not that dark, it's only dark by SA standards).

So, if you want pure power metal, the best choice is Reckoning Night or Silence, if you want weirdness, go with Unia, if you want something darker, go with The Days of Grays. I can recommend you some tracks to check out (1-3 from each album) in PM if you're interested.

Anything up to Reckoning Night would a safe bet if you like their debut, it's pretty much in the same vein. Unia is my favourite of their albums, but it's a lot more experimental and not everyone's cup of tea. After that, things went downhill - I like about half of the songs on TDoG, SGHN and Pariah's Child, but there is a lot of stuff on those albums that I haven't listened to in ages.

It's way, way more experimental. Just don't give up on this album after your first listen, if you can.
