Ye in arts there's this line between something being a masterpiece or a piece of hipster shit, and music is no different. Some of my friends love SGM just because how weird, creepy and bizarre their music is. I guess his point was that "The Donkey-Headed Adversary..." just explores a different range of emotions than most music does, these being quite dark ones. But they're still human anyway, like sadness or rage, or more typical emotions. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Just saying that it evokes no emotions for me, other than annoyance  :lol

I sent as well. I tried to channel Parama and send something sort of weird, but my tastes are so vanilla compared to the Paramacore side of this forum that I'm half expecting to get a result of "Too normal and generic. 5.5."

It's already 9.22 PM and I'm going to sleep since hey, getting up at 5 AM isn't fun. Hopefully Sacul will delay this for eight - or better ten  - hours or something. I want to get a stab on the unguessed hangman which I seem to be missing lately, always coming in threads when there are already a few letters guessed.

Well that's one of the most popular roulette songs so I could understand that.. but through PM Evermind has just shown me his supernatural powers, he guessed the song I sent this round without ANY letters, on top of which: I've never sent this band before and never posted about them (I think). I made a deal and unfortunately lost, so if I make it to round 4 Parama will get something from me that'll surely get me booted.

I liked Trains 'guess the album cover' but it looks like a ball ache to set up.

Use only emojis to write the band/song? Like modern day hieroglyphics, but it will make you dumber!

Yeah that was a bitch to make, once but never again.

I also had a draft going on where I would use 0's and 1's to indicate consonants and vowels, I was gonna reveal some letters along the way or something but it all seemed a bit sloppy.

Just to say my opinion and conclude the debate, I've listened many times the SGM songs I know. I believe that the replay value of those songs comes half for the genius of the band and half for the """catchiness""" and atmosphere that the music conveys.
I know by heart only six tracks of SGM (first five of Of Natural History plus Babydoctor) and based on those songs I can say that the album is a work of art that has to be shared and remembered for many years. I'm going to discover the rest of the album, but I remember that I saved only those songs in my player because the others were interesting only at a conceptual level and nothing more. The first tracks were instead more rock and metal oriented and I enjoy them.
I knew my submission was either a 2 or 9, so there's no problem :)

Round 3 First Impressions

It’s actually an interesting contrast between the bright instrumentation and the darker vibes here, and the instrumentation itself is solidly interesting on its own too.

The strings are a nice touch, the riffs have a lot of power and energy to them, the drumming is pretty solid. I’m not so sure this song can sustain its length, though.

A bit into this and I’m finding that while this isn’t really standing out as anything particularly unique, there’s some cool riffs going on and it’s far from boring.

There’s a grandness, a sense of raw power to this track. It’s a basic song but really effective in what it does.

The wall of sound created by the guitars and strings is wonderfully dense and fuzzy, the drums aren’t destroying it by being too active and the vocals blend right in.

The back half has a more standard sound to it and inevitably a sound I like a lot more, it’s very spacey and ethereal.

There’s not much about this that I find myself interested in, and with how long it takes to really get going that’s not a great sign.

The intro of this is kind of haunting and when the vocals come in it definitely seems like it’s trying to veer in that direction.

Overall: Okay, this is blatantly the best round of the roulette thus far, which should be expected after cutting a third of the participants away I guess, but it's the best in a "almost every score of this round would be at or above the median score of the previous rounds" kind of way, or at least that's how I'm feeling on first listen. I won't judge too quickly either and maybe all of them could even end up in the 7+ range, and I wouldn't doubt the best song of the roulette thus far is in this round, nor would I be able to tell you just which one it is yet.
