The new album "Beneath the Dark Wide Sky" from Dream the Electric Sleep is released today.

It was produced by Nick Raskulinecz who produced the last couple Rush albums.

Having heard it only once, I'm already enjoying it. Very dense and layered, yet melodic and not excessive.

Anyone else heard it?

Yep, listened to it today. It was one of my most anticipated albums of the year and it didn't disappoint, not that I think it's fantastic yet but I really enjoyed it.

Good news. Their debut was far better than their second album, which was too poppy, indie. It was ok, but the first one is so much superior.

Nekov

Wow, good news indeed! I'm curious to see where they go with this one.

lonestar

Sweet, thanks for the heads up, got my driving music for the week.

Absolutely one of the most underrated bands out there. Beneath The Dark Wide Sky was easily my favorite album of 2016 and I'm really looking forward to whatever they put out next. They straddle a fine line between prog, post-rock, and pop and they make it work so well.

SoundscapeMN

I wonder if they know Dirt Poor Robins per both are progressive rock bands from Kentucky.

Dream The Electric Sleep are currently recording their new studio album, which is pencilled in for release some time in 2019.

Wow, so we are getting a "new" album this year and then a really new album net one! That's fantastic

SoundscapeMN

yeah, although I wonder if this album coming in May not resemble as much of their sound as the 1 coming in 2019?

Well, if it was recorded 10 years ago they'll probably be very different which is not a problem for me. Listening to the new track, it does look like the production will be a bit off in this one, but I guess that's something we could expect.

That sounds good, both quality wise as well as song wise

I listened to it yesterday. I'm surprised that it sounds more like the last album and not the first two. My first reaction is that I kinda liked it but need some more listens to both let it sink in and see how it ages. I have the feeling that it may start to feel boring soon but I hope that's not the case.

DTA

I'm liking this a lot, but for me, there's not much this band can do that I don't like. There's so many songs that it's going to take a while to latch onto it and really absorb, but The Stage and The River Current are my early favorites. I'm glad they released this and while I have some vague doubts about it being a "lost album", I'm hoping they do in fact release something new next year.

while I have some vague doubts about it being a "lost album"

Is that because of the sound quality or the fact that it resembles the last album more than the first 2? In any case, I think they re-recorded everything from that lost album which would account for both of the things I mentioned before.

Nekov

Some more listens are making me like this album a lot more. This will probably end in the top 3 albums of the year

I was glad to see this in my "new" Spotify listings today. Pretty good tune with just one listen so far. I'm excited to hear the new album.  :tup

Nick

Ooooh, I was just in the car a few weeks ago and a DtES song came on and I commented how badly I wanted a new album. Very excitied!

Nekov

Heard this song the other day and got very excited for the new album. It seems like they will pick up right where they left, which is great. I really hope they can start touring and keep making awesome music

I can't stop listening to this album.  And "After the Fallout" in particular.  Just hits me in all the right places.

SoundscapeMN

it's a good record, although I am a little bugged by the cymbals clipping on 3 tracks

Beyond Repair
Forged in the Furnace
After the Fallout

but overall, yeah American Mystic is quite good. I find though I hear Coheed and of all bands, Saigon Kick on many parts. Matt almost sounds like Jason Bieler at times.

This album is really doing it for me. Steal The Love and The Lessons They Bring are standouts but the whole album is solid.

Nick

DtES is one of those few bands I never want to change, because their sound just hits a special place in my collection. New album isn't a rehash, but definitely has enough classic elements to make me very happy. Worth the wait.

Matt Page - Apocalypse Garden
debut solo album coming May 3rd. 1st single 1-week from Friday.

QuoteHello Everyone! I am very pleased to announce the first single from my debut solo album, Apocalypse Garden, will be released next Friday, January 19th. I will release a new song every three weeks, then release the full album on May 3rd.

The album doesn't necessarily sound like DTES, but there is a bit of overlap I've been told. If I had to label the music I might say its prog-pop alt-rock? I don't know if that's really a thing but maybe it paints a bit of a picture. I am anxious to share the album, and I hope some of you DTES supporters find this new solo work engaging as well.

I will release everything through the DTES channels, but also extra content on my solo pages. I don't want to clutter up the DTES too much with my personal stuff! You can follow me at:
