One song that was written for/about you
« on: June 15, 2016, 03:28:32 PM »
I was just thinking about it: is there a song you heard and you felt like it was written about you or written by you (alternate timeline yourself or whatever :P)?
...the years just pass like trains
I wave but they don't slow down...

I felt like SDOIT was written about me when I was a teen, hence the name.

However, there actually IS a song written for/about me, by a good friend of mine. He was trying to make money doing odd creative jobs when he was in grad school/broke, so I half-jokingly told him I'd pay him $50 to write a country song about the jackalope running free across the plains. He went above and beyond, and made it a song about me, too. He is a hugely talented dude, and it's actually pretty amazing. I don't think I can share the song itself but these are the lyrics for anybody who knows me :lol

The Legend of the Jackalope

Now, this here’s the story of the jackalope,
a real fearsome critter, or so I’m told,
whose mama was a rabbit, and her pa was an antelope.

The truth is it really was a deer and a hare,
but that little bit is neither here nor there,
the point is our Jackie was naturally bespoke.

The story was told to me by Mr. Steven Wilson,
who sat at my bar and, sippin’ on his whiskey,
said “I’ll tell you a tale, and I swear it ain’t no joke.

He said, “A rabbit with antlers and an itchin’ disposition
ran off to see the world and find what she was missin’,
leaving behind all her friends and folks.”

She sang, “Free! Free! I want to go run free,
come Hell, high water, rough roads or rain.
Free! Free! A jackalope, free as can be, running wild across the plain.”

Now, Mr. Steven Wilson was our local taxidermist
and through his hair and glasses I could tell that he was earnest,
so I poured him a shot and asked, “Well, where’d she go?”

Mr. Wilson shot a very weary look at me,
and shaking in his black shirt and dungarees
told me, “I don’t know, but my heart is broke.”

He said that he and Jackie could have had a life together,
he’d capture and collect his things and she could do whatever
and the taxidermy business would keep them afloat.

But this here jackalope, she had some other plans.
Told him, “I can’t be tied down by some old man.
Relationships, to me, are a hangin’ rope.”

She sang, “Free! Free! I want to go run free,
come Hell, high water, rough roads or rain.
Free! Free! A jackalope, free as can be, running wild across the plain.”

Well I went home and I looked on Wikipedia,
Weird NJ, and all other social media,
to find out more about this jackalope.
Some say she lent her name to a brewery
out in a state with legal THC,
but just as soon, old Jackie hit the road.

Others say she’s into hospice care,
a hell of a trade for a deer-slash-hare,
helpin’ old folks turn into ghosts.

Wherever she is, her legend lives on.
I even met with Steven and co-wrote this song,
quoting Jackie’s chorus, and here’s how it goes:

“Free! Free! I want to go run free,
come Hell, high water, rough roads or rain.
Free! Free! A jackalope, free as can be, running wild across the plain.”
Oh Jackie, always jumping to the most homoerotic possibility.

Probably just a coincidence, but I also know a psychology book about you apparently.

Well, I can't actually top that story.  Anywho, in recent times, I'm going to say either Stone Sour's Dying, Halestorm featuring James Michael's Private Parts, and Skillet's The Older I Get.  Those are the songs that make me reminisce about a failed relationship and how I just don't want to see that person anymore and I get this uneasy feeling when I do, and I'm just finding a way to cope with that.

Near the end of 2012, going into 2013, I was slowly going through the end of a relationship, and it was dying. After nearly 3 years of being together, to various degrees, things started slowly falling apart and we both could tell but didn't want to admit it. Around that time, Marillion's last album, Sounds That Can't Be Made, had been out for less than a month or two, and the final track on the album was really reflective of my feelings and situation at the time. It hurts me so hard to hear it, but I love the song so much, and I cannot help but at least swell up with tears every time I hear it. These lyrics are very real to me, and even hearing the song just now reminds me of how we used to be together, and how our relationship was so good at one point, but then just fell apart after several incidences of lies and deceit, deception and secrets, and even though I still thought we could talk it out and fix things, things just could never go back to the way they were.

Quote
She loves him
But she doesn't want him
She used to burn for him
But now that's changed
She knows he knows
And she says it isn't so
What else can she say?
But when he reaches out
She turns away.

When he talks about it
She says he's cruel
So he apologises
Counts his blessings
What else can he do?
She used to gaze at him reach out with her toes to touch him
She still loves him
But she doesn't want him

And in her eyes, he's so much less
Than the light heart she met
The laughing boy she used to know

He feels ugly now, and the ugliness, creeps around inside him
Until he really is.
The animal paws at him, gnaws at him
The silver-back wins over him

And in his pain, and bitter shame, he resents her.
The one who loves him

They said they'd never lie
They'd learned their lessons from the last times
They said that they could talk
They could always talk
Deceit stirs in them now for reasons good as well as bad

But he wants so much
Not to live another lie
To be free and high again
Trying to see the blue sky above the rain
Trying to see the blue sky above the rain
Remembering the blue sky above the pouring rain
He's trying to see the blue sky above the rain

He's flown there and he's seen it, been up there lighter than air, floating in the miracle
But he can't fly until she wants him
He can't burn until she sparks him
He's dressed in lead from toe to head
Trying to see the blue sky above the rain
Remembering the blue sky above the rain
Maybe they'll talk
Soul to soul head to head heart to heart eye to eye
Rise up to that blue space above the clouds
Where troubles die
And tears dry
Heading West and climbing
In that place the sun never stops shining
The rain's below us.

I'm off to be a bawling puddle of mush now...

-Marc.

I love that song so much it hurts. It's one of those songs that I sometimes can't make it through. It reminds me of my most recent relationship. I feel like listening to it now, though.

Besides that song,  the one that really reminds me of myself is Far From Heaven by DT.

I love Coz.  :)  First song I thought of was "It Won't Suck Itself".

Anway, "You're So Vain" was written about me. Or at least I think so.

(Seriously, I don't have any written 'for or about' me that I can think of, but some - "Evidence of Autumn", "Drops of Jupiter" - I feel were written by people who were watching my life.)

From Sad Song by Christina Perri

"And I'm so sorry, it's not like me
It's maturity that I'm lacking
So don't, don't let me go
Just let me know that I can slip and fall
And you won't let me go
Just let me know that growing up goes slow"

For some context, at the end of high school, me and my girlfriend were having some relationship problems. I was having a lot of trouble with doing more adult things like getting a job and taking care of myself. It was putting quite a bit of stain on our relationship because she has always been very mature for her age and I'm generally more immature. I heard this song at the peak of our problems and it just hit me. I wanted to show it to her to let her know that I was trying to grow up but it wasn't easy. I never did show her the song although she eventually heard it but we worked out the issues anyway and I eventually grew up. Still, the song resonates with me to this day.

Also, not directly about me, but I wrote a song for said girlfriend (who I'm still with after seven years) back in high school.
People figured out that the white thing that comes out of cows' titties could be drunk, and the relation between sweet desires and women's bellies growing up for 9 months. It can't be THAT hard to figure out how a trumpet works.”

Damn straight. I really don't like this #Triggered society. #Offended . Everyone online. Music stores closed because of online piracy. Taking the fun out of waiting for an album to be released

so you could go buy it instead of just stealing it two weeks early...
