Ever since I heard it, SFAM has been my favourite album, I worship the ground that album walks on!

Second would most likely be Images and Words.

I see a trend here, the albums just before the turn of a decenium gets the most votes. WDADU through IAW, SFAM through 6DOIT. And then BC&SL -> 11th album. I'll see if my theory proves right when the time comes  ;)

I agree , it seems 6DOIT is the favorite around here.At the risk of starting a fight,it is my least favorite.I hardly ever listen to it in my rotation of DT albums. My personal favorite is SFAM. :tup

Mebert78

6DOIT is definitely not their best album, IMO.  While it has some kick-ass songs, it also has a number of weakpoints: Good night Kiss, the end of Misunderstood, etc.  Meanwhile I&W, Awake, and SFaM are stellar from start to finish.  My choice goes to Awake.

I think SDOIT is definitely their best. The best of every facet of DT blended perfectly.

Marvellous G

While 6DOiT's not my favourite, from an objective viewpoint I completely agree with Blob on that. The idea of SFAM just appeals to me more.

PlaysLikeMyung

Awake is now winning.

I approve

To me, only I&W, Awake, and SDOIT are even contenders.  SFAM is cool but riddled with flaws and way overrated; FII is closer to being DT's "best album" than it is.

The big four are the highest, big surprise ::)

BlobVanDam

I believe that's why they call them the big four :p

XianL

So no matter what, my phrase would have been right?

YEAH! ;D

6 degrees' newly discovered love is a surprise to me.

I've been at this board through all of its incarnations...I wish I could call up all the archives where that album got absolutely ripped....and ripped right up until the next album dropped. And now its the greatest thing ever?

uh huh.

Yeah, that's why I never put too much faith in what fans have to say online :lol

YtseBitsySpider

it actually taught me a very valuable lesson(the one you just mentioned)
I jumped on the hate wagon with everyone else.

It really is a masterpiece.....seeing it live went a long way to helping me see that.

FiberglassMoon

Scenes.  Still my favorite album ever.

6DOIT is one of my least favourite dream theater albums, I love all but one song from the second disc but the actual song leaves me cold.

Hell yeah. 6DOIT was my favorite DT release for so long. That album is such a fucking masterpiece.

Gorille85

SFAM followed by SDOIT.

setrataeso

Images and Words, but its a very close race between that and 6DOIT and 8VM.

SC isnt as bad as everyone seems to think it is, but its nowhere close to being one of their best.
And Wait For Sleep is a friggin amazing song!

ack44

hmm.... Awake is looking pretty good this round

I have a lot of love for all the albums, especially SFOM, I&W, and Awake, but as a lifelong fan of the concept album, my vote goes to the only concept song, 6DOIT.

Icebear

It sounds boring and cliché to always go with I&W, but it's what I have to do. I would love for DT to overwhelm me with an even better album. But I wonder if that's possible, because of the nostalgia involved. If you got into the band because of a certain album, it'll always have something that other albums can't touch. But like I said, I'd love to be proven wrong on that point. God knows they came close with SFAM.

SDOIT was THE hardest DT album to get into, for me. All because of the first disc. The title track was ok at first, now I simply love it. I think the first disc has some great moments (and Disappear is actually a top 15 song, to me), but all in all, it's probably the disc I play the least, out of all their stuff (yes, including WDADU).

But like with all music, this has the potential to change. I find myself listening more and more to SC, even though I would have ranked it fairly low a year ago. These things come and go.

pogoowner

I went with I&W, but Awake and SFAM are right there as well. Everything else is a step down.

MykeHavoc

From start to finish, Awake in my favorite.

Very close second is Scenes.

Vlasto

SFAM...

...158 voters is not that much to this vote become an ultimate...we need more....
