Best Album
« on: August 20, 2009, 02:49:45 PM »
I know this has been done numerous times, but in light of the 6DOIT thread and how a lot of people are saying it is their best album, while I think it is far from it, I wanted to see what the board's opinion is. You can just vote or if you want to discuss and/or argue, you can post. For me it would be Awake followed really closly by Metropolis pt. 2. You?

Coin flip between Images and Awake. Went with the latter.

Right now I am living a moment where I really enjoy Black Clouds, but looking back I would say that Octavarium and Awake were the best ones. Octavarium being the best.

Thus far, SDOIT is the best album by anybody, ever.

Scenes From a Memory.

I think it's easily their best album, and put it up there with DSoTM, Animals and The Final Cut as one of my favourite albums ever.

big toss up since their albums are all so different.

I would have to say, for me, it's a tie between Octavarium and Train of Thought.

My personal favorite is SDOIT, and it is also one of my favorite albums of all time, but I have to say Images and Words is one of the most consistent albums I have ever heard, and the most consistent of Dream Theater. Every song is amazing, every song feels epic, there´s no weak moments and there is energy and feeling for it, IMO.

So, favorite is SDOIT, but best one is Images and Words, in my humble opinion.

Awake. One of the few albums that I can listen to in its entirety and come out neither disliking a single song, and feeling that the sum was in fact greater than the parts, without being a concept album.

Everytime this exact same threat pops up, I automatically head for Images and Words, click the bubble, then click vote.  I'm not even trying anymore.  We need a stickied official "DT album rankings" thread.

I agree with what you say completely...although, I am noticing that the results are turning out very differently from the last poll we took, 6DOIT is doing better than either Scenes or Awake, which is different from last time, if I'm remembering correctly.

How many times have we done this thread since the forum came back up? It's been at least once hasn't it?
Anyway, I'll throw in my vote for the masterpiece of SDOIT.
Only King could mis-spell a LETTER.
Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

To solve this once and for all, someone needs to do a Dream Theater Album Survivor.

Images and Words but it is really close for me between that and Six Degrees

For me it was Images & Words for a long time, but now it has been a tad overplayed and has now been replaced with Awake. Images is still an awesome and perfect record though.
