None of my top 5 bands were actually on the list (Cardiacs, Oceansize, Swans, Boris & Godspeed You! Black Emperor), but out of the options I went with these 5:

*Agalloch
*Between the Buried and Me
*Radiohead
*Sigur Rós
*The Mars Volta

This is a great idea for a thread. Might also give some indication to potential survivor hosts as to which bands would get good participation figures.

The Beatles
The Flower Kings
Flying Colors
Genesis
Haken
IQ
Marillion
Pink Floyd
Rush
Spock's Beard
SW/Porcupine Tree
Transatlantic
Elton John

Of the bands not listed in the poll, I'd like to add Arena and Pendragon.

I miss ELP.

Sycsa is perhaps the most brilliant and insightful man I have ever encountered.

I voted for:

Anathema
Haken
Iron Maiden
Megadeth
Metallica
Opeth
Radiohead
Redemption
Steven Wilson/Porcupine Tree (don't listen to his solo stuff though)
Symphony X
Tesseract
Tool
Transatlantic

Most of the other bands I've not really checked out much, if at all. Though I have at least heard of them all  :lol Only ones not there I can think of that would get a decent amount of votes would be Muse, Deftones and JLB's solo stuff.

Most of my picks seem to be fairly well followed on the forum - only Redemption with 11 votes and Tesseract with 7 are lagging behind a bit. Pink Floyd, Rush and Yes look like the big hitters I'm missing out on.

Can't help but agree.

I love this forum for some of the amazing bands it's followers have introduced me to, a lot of which are in this poll. I agree with the list of artists that we have to vote on and can't think of many glaring omissions, possibly Mastodon in my opinion, but I find it a shame that some people are missing out on some great bands by not getting stuck into some of the threads with the most variety.

The "What album are you listening to" is a great example, so many different genres get discussed on there and some of the best discoveries I've found on this forum have been albums that come up a lot in that thread. Also the "Top 50 albums" threads. I love most of the classic bands that are now in the poll but as mentioned they don't all get discussed on here to the degree that some other bands do. It's all down to individual perspective and the threads you frequent i guess.

I'm going to keep discovering all the great bands I can, new or old.

Also, it's not just people in their 20's who listen to new "trendy" bands, just saying.

Peace

This thread did make me think of official releases, and DT's covering of the most songs by one artist.

That would go to Queen, with four (Bo Rhap on ACOS, and the 'Sheer Heart Attack' medley on the BC&SL bonus disc.

Without knowing it, I'd heard and liked another cover before I'd even heard of the band.

...going along with Dragon Attack's Queen thread has been like taking a free class in Queen knowledge. Where else are you gonna find info like that?!

Another way to do this, with more emphasis on which artists are liked the most rather than "which artists do people here like to any degree whatsoever", would have been to take a 10/20 Favourite Artists thread and tally how many times each artist appeared.

Yeah, but that would take a lot more work :P

Maybe I'll take the top ten or twenty artists out of this poll and do another poll where people only vote for ones that they'd rank among their personal favorites.
