This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

I think The Gentle Storm is one of those funky Ayreon side-projects.

Maybe I should just try out Lechuga before I ever run a roulette again.

Oh, and I found The Gentle Storm to be quite disappointing live, even though I probably should like it. It might not have helped that I hadn't heard the album before.

Inspired by recent roulettes, I’ve made a point in the past week or two of sampling a huge array of the bands whose names I constantly see mentioned on dtf that I’ve never tried because my focus had veered into other places, as I felt I’ve become so out of touch with a lot of the discussion on here.

My conclusion generally was that if I ever did a roulette, it would be the most unpopular roulette in dtf history. People would lose their minds at the scores I would give some sacred cows.

I have only sent the Train of Naught residents so far in this roulette, but I had a newcomer planned. Probably won't have space for it though because they don't have a sub 2 minute song except for the interlude on their first EP, which isn't available on any streaming application.

Funny, I think it was you I criticized for choosing this one in a different roulette not too long ago, and then I turn around and send it. 1) That conversation made me really revisit it and like it more than I did before and 2) this seems like the right choice for splent.

Do you want to share any specifics? I'll admit, this has me interested. :P
Well, looking through my history, I revisited post-Catch 33 Meshuggah, Mastodon, Gojira, BTBAM, Haken, Protest the Hero, Devin Townsend, Threshold, Thrice, and The Dear Hunter. Checked out Ihsahn, Seventh Wonder, Enslaved, Leprous, Thank You Scientist, The Sword, Amorphis, The Ocean, Solstafir, Diablo Swing Orchestra, Cloudkicker, Tesseract, Headspace, David Maxim Micic, Carnivool, Animals as Leaders, Redemption, Closure in Moscow, and Thy Catafalque.

Also, Caligula's Horse and Flying Colors.

From that list, I noted down to look further into a grand total of: Cloudkicker, The Sword, and Solstafir. The last of which makes sense as the one area of metal that I have sampled and liked but not explored is post-metal / sludge metal stuff (Isis, Cult of Luna, Neurosis, Boris).

And I was reminded of how spectacular Mastodon's debut was. Even back when I gave the band any time of day, I thought it was their best album, and the only one that really struck a nerve with me, but I completely gave up on them at the time of Crack the Skye and just forgot it (the debut) and they existed. Revisiting it, and checking out their newer stuff, it's remarkable how tame and boring and mass-market they became, even as early as Blood Mountain.

Fluffy, I would definitely give you wacky shit. Do a roulette, please.
Probably this, I'd just send weird shit :lol
That might be the best strategy, actually.

I have no plans to do one anytime soon.

Cloudkicker is a pretty cool band, my favorite song:

"He would be riding on the subway or writing formulas on the blackboard or having a meal or (as now) sitting and talking to someone across a table, and it would envelop him like a soundless tsunami"
