Oh come on, I had to eventually make a thread about my favorite movie (and book), right?
Ever since the beginning of my stay here at DTF, my avatar has been the movie version of Blackavar (also my online handle basically everywhere but here), my favorite character in the book, with quite a bit less spotlight in the movie (where he has a horrific death for God-knows-why).
What an awesome movie. It's about a group of rabbits that leave their home in search of another after one among the group has a terrible vision of their home's destruction. If you haven't seen it before, it really doesn't matter if you watch the movie or read the book first, as they both improve the perspective of the other, and aren't extremely different (except a few storytellings in the book not in the movie and a few differences in chronology). It's a cartoon, but it's not made by Disney and was rated PG in
1978, and if it were released today, it would easily be PG-13.
Reason being is that it's pretty violent. Lots of blood and death. Many people in youtube comments, etc, talk about how disturbing the movie was to them as a child. Personally, I don't remember being disturbed by the movie or the book (which I remember was read to me at my bed as a child).
Now why did I make a thread now, of all times? Well, I recently found
this article, which was then followed by
this article. I've been half-wanting a remake of Watership Down for
years. I searched up "watership down remake" jokingly online the other day, and nearly fell out of my chair in surprise. And this was information unveiled in
March! And it's almost "next year".
"Stephenson describes the animation as “incredibly detailed” and says that the violent nature of the story will also be maintained."
I'm excited. Discuss the movie (and the book), as well as the upcoming 4-part remake.
And don't talk about the late-90's TV series.
