aenaon: i feel compared to hypnosophy this one's just a bit bloated. a few of the tracks don't really stand out too much either, there's 8 full songs here and only like 5 of them i could tell you what they sound like off the top of my head. i think the back half is stronger than the front half at least. it's far from bad though it's still pretty solid and kinda weird black metal i just don't find it as engaging as hypnosophy i guess.
an abstract illusion: this is really pretty for metal and not in a bad way at all but i kind of feel like it fails to stand out much in any real way. maybe the tracks are all a bit long too, they feel a bit drawn out for the number of ideas that tends to be on display per track. it's enjoyable enough to listen to though and i do wish i was more into this than i am, def gonna keep listening to it
solstafir: i kind of got this one out of obligation and honestly a good bit of this album i don't find that compelling. the entire run from tracks 3-6 is the side of solstafir that doesn't appeal to me as much; the straightforward, short, rock-y type songs. svartir was bloated with them & could've easily been a strong sub-60 or 70 minute album with all the filler cut but this album is already sub-60 and still has those filler-y sounds that i don't care for. the rest is pretty good though, especially tracks 2 and 7, so i'm not complaining too much but it definitely feels like a step down for them

I was a bit disappointed with TTB when it came out, but only because of the awesomeness of the debut. Its grown on me over the years, and I enjoy III as well, even though it's basically a bonus track/outtakes album.

LotR could be my favourite AOR album of all time.

Did you see that Dann Huff played a few Giant songs at a benefit show in Nashville yesterday? He didn't sing as he said he hasn't sung in 25 years and couldn't hit the notes back then  :biggrin: The guy they got in  did a good job but was a bit cringey in his stage moves  :lol Link in the Issa thread.

When I was like 12 I loved pink garette but thought that otherwise Mr. Bungle was just a stupid shock value band. I finally decided to actually get through their discography and now I'm listening through this album for the 4th time today

Last week:

The Optimist: A little too unispired at times but I like the electronics and that noy every song has a buildup structure. Not really sure what to think about it but will revisit it ofc.

Humanz:  :'(

Wear Your Wounds: Pretty cool post-rock/sludge/shoegaze record from Converge's singer, very atmospheric. I may send a song or two to Parama on my EP.

Planetarium: I think this will be in my top 3 of the year, it's gorgeous in many ways - Sufjan and co made a very ethereal, symphonic piece here. Dem feelz.

Paranoid: I actually ended up liking this more than expected, huh. Very solid dad rock stuff even by today's standards I guess.

Sing to God: It's... just not my thing. Probably too chaotic, and I don't really dig those 70s-inspired melodies. Wished I like it more because there's pretty creative stuff here.

S.C.I.E.N.C.E.: Like if Faith No More and Rage Against the Machine fused and made an actually good version of Deftones :neverusethis:

Ucchu Nippon Segataya: Yeah I'm in love with this and will spam Fishmans on every roulette I can :P
