Had a bit of free time so managed to listen to two more that weren't included in the pic to replace the Pearl Jam and Mree records and keep the pace:
Cheating the Polygraph: Finally got around this one, very interesting jazz versions of many
Porcupine Tree classics. Glad he decided to go with a more "old-school" sound than a 50s-60s jazz approach (I know nothing about jazz so bear me on this
). Like my gf said, like it was Whiplash arrangements of them.
宇宙 日本 世田谷 (Uchū Nippon Setagaya): I just call it "their '97 album"
. A friend heavily recommend me this other of their records, knowing I dig the wonderful Long Season. And fuck, he was right. This is very, very chill, soft, atmospheric, almost dreamy but without any of the cheese and lame production many of these bands had in the late 90s/early 00s. Kinda trip-hop-ish, it reminds me of
No-Man -
Flowermouth. I think I'm in love with it, those synths and pads, and the sampled drums and the violins aahhh
. Just gorgeous stuff, perfect for warm Spring day.
