It may not be the popular choice but I love this album.

Me too... my favorite DT album... need to spin it in full once in a while

If by 'spinning' you mean whipping it across the yard for the dog to chase down and then bury in the garden, then I agree.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".

I was thinking more like spinning it out the car window while driving at top speed.

If we followed the popular choice, we wouldn't be on DTF in the first place, right?

As for me, prepping for next week's concert..

Solstafir: It's good is all I can say during my first listen. Naros is :hefdaddy but apart from that it is average Solstafir from what I've heard from them so far, which isn't bad. They're just a very consistent band. Will need more listens though
SikTh: I avoided the singles and was planning to avoid the album because SikTh just wasn't my cup of tea (although I do still like Opacities a lot, the 'less weird' SikTh release). Someone recommended this to me saying it's not as weird and damn, it's very strong. Still has some hints to a more alternative metal direction but offers the crazy shit in acceptable doses. Right now one of the best first impressions of a 2017 album.
Mechina: This is kind of weird but also really cool. Very futuristic sounding symphonic chants and synths with dynamic as fuck drums backing it up. Quite some different types of music combined here but they do it in a pretty subtle way that isn't distracting. Pretty sure I'll have to send this shit in Parama's roulette :corn
Ulsect: Kind of overplayed the 3 singles before the release anticipating their show, but seeing them live made me excited for this again. And all I can say now is the album is just a strong blend of post-metal like atmospheres and more extreme deathmetal like stuff. Wouldn't say it's unique in any way, but it's pretty great for what it is. Besides Artificial Language's "The Observer", this is probably my favourite album by a new band of 2017.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

hey brb checking out mechina :neverusethis:

but no you make it sound pretty interesting please do send them whenever

i listened to this again and i think the first three tracks are just okay but from there on it's all pretty good stuff. definitely gotta pick this one up, dunno if it'll be in the tiny order i'm planning to make (rn it's either this or ulsect but i'm considering dream the electric sleep and elder too, just gotta decision real soon) but i'm definitely getting this in my next bigger haul if not

As is often the case (for my tastes) Big Hath's listening is 1/2 killer; 1/2 :wtf: / :dunno:

I know Nevermore (not my thing), but Promise Man and Mytho-something is unknown to me.

in fact Brent just played a Holy Soldier track on the podcast (although it is a vastly different sound from the more alternative/grungy mid-90's album I posted which kind of has a Soundgarden vibe)

this is fine enough atmospheric black metal stuff & the tribal influences don't feel like a gimmick as much as an integrated part of the sound of the album, but

it just doesn't really stir any emotions in me, i dunno. i don't mind listening to it sure but it doesn't really have any standout qualities

Definitely! To be honest, I had hard time getting into it but it's my 2nd favorite right now (after The Plague Within).

eluvium - man, eluvium is just such nice & dense music. i just love the sound. and it's cool how the three albums i have are also pretty instrumentally different. this one's primarily piano & strings, talk amongst the trees is heavily guitar-driven, and false readings on is driven by synth stuff mostly. so they all end up pretty distinct. i dunno which is my favorite, they're all good tbh
fen - too early for me to be really having a fully formed opinion because this is long & complex but there's a lot i like here. it's a good middle ground between prog metal and atmospheric black metal & does both pretty well. i like it but it needs more listens to really sink in i think
khonsu - now this i know i love. dang. the three longer tracks especially but the rest is good too. it's like if hacride had black metal influences & also wrote a space opera. Kind of. i dunno i just like this a lot lol. i'd send this in a lot of roulettes, if there were any to send it in, hint hint
