Solstafir: It's good is all I can say during my first listen. Naros is
but apart from that it is average Solstafir from what I've heard from them so far, which isn't bad. They're just a very consistent band. Will need more listens though
SikTh: I avoided the singles and was planning to avoid the album because SikTh just wasn't my cup of tea (although I do still like Opacities a lot, the 'less weird' SikTh release). Someone recommended this to me saying it's not as weird and damn, it's very strong. Still has some hints to a more alternative metal direction but offers the crazy shit in acceptable doses. Right now one of the best first impressions of a 2017 album.
Mechina: This is kind of weird but also really cool. Very futuristic sounding symphonic chants and synths with dynamic as fuck drums backing it up. Quite some different types of music combined here but they do it in a pretty subtle way that isn't distracting. Pretty sure I'll have to send this shit in Parama's roulette
Ulsect: Kind of overplayed the 3 singles before the release anticipating their show, but seeing them live made me excited for this again. And all I can say now is the album is just a strong blend of post-metal like atmospheres and more extreme deathmetal like stuff. Wouldn't say it's unique in any way, but it's pretty great for what it is. Besides Artificial Language's "The Observer", this is probably my favourite album by a new band of 2017.
