i wish i understood the appeal of angry music
I personally find it quite liberating when I'm feeling tense or anxious, and the intensity and heaviness works better imo when it's a true expression of angst and the like. I really like it when it's the fuel for some creative, groundbreaking music like NIN, Refused, or Converge. Somehow I tend to find that heavy/extreme music without some degree of anger to be quite dull, maybe that explains why I'm really not into death or black metal lel. But this is just my opinion.

Ferrymen was about what I was expecting.  Jorn... definitely better than expectations.

So thankful you got me in to these guys, but I'm still surprised that (relatively) straight-forward Italian power metal still floats your boat these days.   :tup

It's nice sometimes and works as a catharsis for me. I don't even necessarily have to be angry or upset to listen to Converge, but I feel like any time I put them on, I come out of the album feeling more at peace afterwards.

i think i actually might prefer this to dodecahedron, this feels more rooted in sludgier grooves that i really dig. i don't think i'm gonna get it just yet though but it'll definitely be on the list in my next big haul. unless i can't find anything i want more than it which is possible?

Last week:

Souvlaki: I'm not into shoegaze like My Bloody Valentine and Alcest, so just gave this a listen because it's an iconic album and that jazz. And I actually kinda liked it?!? Very dreamy, layered, and lots of emotions and none of the vacuum-cleaners. Watched Pitchfork's documentary on this album and damn, poor kids. Gonna relisten definitely.

Frengers: More roulette stuff. Yup this is very nice. Will revisit.

Birds: Even more roulette stuff, Fluffy (RIP) sent me Ruby Nights, and the album is kinda like that and not really half and half. Kinda like the soft chamber folk mom would listen to but actually well-written. Kinda curious how she seems to be only known in New Zealand :P

Dopesmoker: I think I'd definitely love this if I was high, but since drugs are for losers, I guess I'll just have to appreciate it as it is. Many awesome sections but damn this one takes quite some time to start getting interesting. Curious how it wil grow on me.

Metamorph: Roulette stuff part 3. Is this like some kind of prog but with a pop-ish approach and lots of cool synths? I like it.

Everything Goes Numb: Roulette Stuff IV: The Return of the Fluffy. I really despite all the lame generic-ass ska bands from here, but i'm diggin this! Pretty creative, well-written stuff.

Be: Roulette st- yeah. Not really a fan of this band but got Iter Impius and was pretty cool so why not trying this one. Hey, it's not half bad! Glad Daniel's annoying vocal noises and almost-beatbox-rhythms aren't really here, and there's quite a good amount of folk ballads. Except for the bad spoken parts, I'm liking it.

In Rainbows: Wtf this really bored me before but now I think it's kind of awesome? Damn I need to listen to more of these guys.

Ceremonials: I love Seven Devils but damn the rest of this album is quite boring  :'(

Axe to Fall: Fuck, this is awesome. Heavy and angry as hell but so well-written and even with a ballad. I need more Converge.

Holy Fire: First two tracks = awesome. The rest = meh.

Finally We Are No One: Really lovely album, slowly getting into the more electronic, instrumental tracks. Wished there was more stuff like this. Will eventually try their previous record.

The Great Misdirect: Dunno how many listens I've given to this one but still haven't properly digested it lel Excellent stuff tho.

Kind of Blue: First two tracks are awesome, and the rest ain't bad at all. I'll very slowly get into jazz I guess.

Automatic for the People and Boxer: Yeah, really not my thing at all.

:omg: Damn, well this exceeded my expections. It could be new album hype but I feel like they continued the ascending line of quality they had with each album so far. It has some similarities in style with Lore but is more melodic and psychedelic, bringing the prog influences more to the front. I also feel the songs are structured slightly better than Lore, because as great as that album is, there are a few parts were some repetitions get a little tedious, which is hardly ever the case in Reflections of a Floating World.

The new Eidola album is pretty solid, just as their previous album some solid post-hardcore with nice prog influences. Their titles are getting a little silly do, where they purposely try to sound deep and spiritual: Transcendentium, Pt. I: Zoroastrian Come on guys  :lol

but since drugs are for losers, I guess I'll just have to appreciate it as it is.

 ;)
