Lingering
Oh boy, I expected that I had to wait another day before being able to listen to this. It's hard to judge after one listen but it definitely does not dissapoint. I think as an album this one has SPP's flow so far.

Berdreyminn
It's better than I expected based on the singles but I feel that overall it lacks some of the beauty of their previous album. There are some really good moments tho.

Heirs
Decided to check more from this band as I'm going to see them live (they visit my home town and tickets are very cheap). The mix between post-rock and energetic math-rock is pretty great but also a little tiring at times. I do like the happy vibes.

Yeah, I think I remember, just didn't take any notice.  Seems harsh, solid band.  Yeah, as far as I know they weren't popular outside of Australia so the Nuno thing as you said perhaps.

Not that Paul is in that part of the world but they also got some press for supporting Van Halen in the US  - on the F.U.C.K. tour if memory serves correct.

I remember us discussing that we were both at that show and others.  Small world.

This week, I've been listening to all of Paul Gilbert's solo albums.  Good god, what fantastic stuff.  Seriously outrageous.  Great playing and shockingly good songwriting.  When you can take a song like Bivalve Blues, write it from the perspective of, well, a bivalve at the bottom of the ocean, and make a killer slow blues jam out of it, that's fucking cool.

I have the album from release on vinyl - they were in Kerrang I think. They supported someone in the UK I think, but can't remember who. Or the old memory might be playing up again

Quick trip to Wikipedia - it could have been as support to Bryan Adams. I did see his Waking Up The Neighbours Tour.

new music friday nice.
elder - this is pretty solid. doesn't really feel like it's breaking any new ground for them though? like i dunno if i'd buy this. it's solid stuff but they're really just sticking to their guns & i already have two albums of that
sikth - the vocals are still annoying at moments & the talky tracks are bleh but it seems less "wacky" here than on their other albums, so it's alright. and musically there's some cool stuff going on. may check this one out again, dunno

also i need to do this, dang.

the hirsch effekt - yeah, i do feel this is the weakest of their three albums but. that's kind of a high bar to hit. mostly i think this one is a bit unfocused? there's a lot of stuff here. math rock, glitchy idm, post-hardcore, prog metal stuff, occasionally some folk touches & mathcore touches. it's a friggin' dynamic album but a lot of the songs are disjointed & it flows way more as an album than as individual songs, which is not something i would say about their other releases. but i still enjoy it quite a bit, it's kind of fascinating in a trainwreck-y sort of way
minsk - this doesn't really have any moments where it really..."grabs" me, but it's solid front-to-back. i guess i'm not a huge fan of track two but that's a small, small fraction of the album. i feel like i'm missing something though, like it hasn't quite clicked. maybe it's the vocal style, it's a bit strange for the genre. i'm still interested in giving this more spins though for sure
planning for burial - i feel like the more i listen to this the less it does for me. the shorter tracks are all just "okay", and the longer tracks... being a teenager stuck out on first listen but it loses its power on relistens. verse/chorus/verse is prob the only song that's got better, the 13 min ambient closer is just a bit too minimal and motionless to be compelling for its length really. maybe a bit disappointed by this one, it's not bad but it's not great either

if you had told me there was a new qTp album i would not have expected it to sound like this.
but it's... interesting.
anyways, since this is probably going to be hard as hell to buy, i just did because $14 is not a bad price since they have free shipping until literally tomorrow only

so. that's nice

Yesterday's listening sponsored by 2017.

Not sure how many of my peeps have checked out the Wolfpakk album, but (notwithstanding Brent's general lack of interest in multi-vocalist albums), it's very good - when you disregard the first two tracks.  Ronnie Atkins is absolutely killer on Mother Earth.  Also, I gotta pimp out Soulspell as well - with contributions by Matos, Scheepers, Hartmann, Ripper, Blaze and more .... how can you go wrong?

Nightflight Orchestra was the most memorable, with Jorn a close second.

A few in there I am about to check out and expecting to like.  I don't write off multi,multi-vocalist albums.........just seems that when I do check them out it's usually a case of "too many cooks" and the songs ain't there , especially when the singers are just hired guns .

I will certainly check out the Wolfpakk.  I will say though that Michael Voss hasn't written much that I consider better than okay for a while.
