Wonder what artistic direction made them make the aorta blue in that cover art... triggers me so much as a med student  :lol
I mean they got the vena cava right... why is the rest completely flipped then color-wise?

The Alchemy Index is pretty great. I'd rank the albums as follows:

1. Water
2. Earth
3. Fire
4. Air

They're all great though.

I disagree on Vheissu/Beggars being better, though nothing on TAI is as good as Beggars (the song).

I'd go with Water > Fire >> Earth >>>>>>> Air after one listen. Will definitely revisit Thrice sometimes, left a good impression overall.

It's a bit of a polarizing album, some people love it, some hate it

I just love Gillan's vocals on the whole record.  Better production would have made it even better.

I can't remember much about it aside from the fact that I was skipping through it very quick - and my iTunes song ratings show me rating a couple of tracks 4/5 stars and, aside from one 2 star :lol  the rest were 3's.   Presumably it was just the songs - doubt I would've had any issue with Gillan.

Water is the best of them. There are some amazing melodies and textures throughout.

It just wasn't a good fit.

Magnum - Sleepwalking. Never heard this one before. It's ok.

checking out the two albums from this band
first one: production is trash and the album feels a bit monotonous but the style is okay. wouldn't pick it up
second one: dang, this is really cool though. it's definitely refined from the first album & production wise is a ton better as well. i bought it earlier today. it's very much "my thing". the opener is prob my favorite track though tbh but it's killer as heck

Agree. There are some really cool tracks on this album which is marred by some godawful production. I particularly like Gillan's performance on Trashed: "And as we got trashed, we were laughing still, well bless my soul etc". I will admit the instrumentals are basically just filler and the cover art is pretty uninspiring. Still my treasure my vinyl copy which I bought the day it was released here in Australia.  ;)

Today I've played

Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound - Ekranoplan
Blue Cheer - Vincebus Eruption
Sigur Ros - Takk

Ekranoplan was a purely speculative purchase, I had never heard of AHiSS nor read any reviews. Smart move as it turned out. One of the best albums I bought in 2016. The link below is for the instrumental track Summon the Vardig, one of my favourites.
