Best Def Leppard album Def Leppard never made

Close, but the correct answer is:

Blatant rip of award:
Grand Design - Thrill Of The Night

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzyD3ZF770E

  true.
When I first read your post it just had the Grand Design link and. I've heard that before and it's just not very good.

I love that Bad Moon Rising album. Wasn't it a japan only import ?
Second BMR "Blood" album is alright, but album #3 "Opium For The Masses" was really strong again. My favorite Doug Aldrich era (I don't get Dio's Killing The Dragon at all.)

I like that era too Lepprador (also the Lion albums)  but , one track aside , I thought BMR's attempt to go grungy on Opium For The Masses was typical of the 80's bands that tried it - pretty awful :lol

Opium is a grunge album ? I havn't heard it in almost 20 years, but back in the day, that thought never crossed my mind. I just thought it has great riffs and songwriting.
You're right, classic 80s bands trying to stay relevant by going grunge were a crime to humanity. Dokken - Shadow Life comes to my mind.

I did think as I typed that ......"grungy" isn't really the right word.  Maybe alternative/industrial.............I dunno the right terms , but there was a definite effort to 90's-orise their sound and to me it didn't sound like them any more.

I was a big fan so I remember my reaction to that album quite distinctly................WTF?  :lol    The same sort of reaction that I had to FII by Dream Theater , although DT's change was a little more subtle.

Holywar is a cool track though , so I kept it.   So unlike Shotgun Messiah's Violent New Breed it didn't end up in the bin  ;D

Overshadowed by the Keepers, but not bad at all. I believe it was my first step into "Speed Metal".

If Kiske was the singer on this one, it would be up there with the Keeper albums.

Interesting lineup :   Steve Overland pre -FM ,  Phil Soussan pre-Ozzy , Simon Kirke (Bad Co) and produced by Mick Ralphs (Bad Co).   Sounds pretty much like you would expect based on those names.

Just finished watching The History of The EAGLES for the second time and realized that the day after tomorrow, Glenn Frey died one year ago. His death shocked me just as much as Bowies, having been a huge Eagles fan for most of my life, and I will always regret never having seen them in concert forever.
So, honoring the great Glenn Frey:
Eagles - Long Road Out Of Eden - Long Road Out Of Eden
any rock can be made to roll

I went back and tested out a few tracks off that Sepultura album today Tim.   Was never into them back in the day but my tastes have heavied up since and so I thought it's worth a try.  Not bad but still not my cuppa tea really.  I prefer my thrash a touch more melodic (musically and vocally)

Agree on all points 100%.

I've honestly never really given Sepultura a chance based on the vocals. But LudwigVan's comment in the Sepultura thread led me to give it a listen.

The Rising Steel album is pretty cool.
