i got this kind of as a joke because i'm a few letters shy of having bought albums from bands starting with every letter of the alphabet and X is on that list

but it's also actually like, really cool? symphonic/cinematic black metal with a lot of folk and a great album structure, i'd say that I, indeed, dig it

i'll get this one someday but... it's just not as interesting as their later stuff. not as heavy, no vocals, it's just a solid instrumental prog album.

I can't remember soundtrack but I know I didn't like movie that much as others did. English Trainspotting did this drug-type movie much better imo.

That sounds like it could be right up my alley, what's the album/band called?

Also, Thrice-heavy day today, and an album that is quickly becoming one of my favourite prog metal releases.

Well, I'm not sure I do  :lol my brother has gotten me into loads of bands over the years. I remember getting a ton of music off him about 3 years ago and Xasthur were in there. I gave them a couple of listens but they never ended up on my Ipod so I guess I didn't really like them. From what I remember they were kinda atmospheric black metal stuff with early At The Gates style vocals?? I could be wrong though! Don't go sending similar in my roulette, you might be disappointed  :lol

Yep. It is actually called depressive suicidal black metal :lol it's the same thing as basically atmospheric black metal. Xasthur actually sounds scary to me, like really scary, especially paired with his image.

Nope. Never heard of that one. Looks like a fusion-y trio.

Ah, I have heard of the band when not shortened to the initials. Too wimpy for me, and I imaging Ben has a few things to say about it too

Lucky for me Ben is at school :lol    The discussion in the other thread got me thinking about some 70's bands that were on my list to check out .  So I did - with one of their 80's albums :neverusethis:

A lot like 38 Special this album - nice easy listening while I am trying to figure out how to put all my equipment back together at the new place  ::)

so yeah all four albums from this band? pretty rad

their last two albums have annoying samples in them that i'm not a fan of but only like, a minute out of the albums' runtime each so whatever

the music is so cool that i don't even care

gonna be getting their entire discography next year, i can tell

Yeah, that album's not bad. And by not bad, I mean spectacular.

First listen of this. Sounds pretty bonkers. If there was more experimental metal being made in the early '90s, I don't think I've heard it.

it's... alright. it's kind of lifeless and a bit too showboaty for my tastes, and not particularly unique either so eehh. pass

Spectral Lore - III

really good black metal tbh, probably my favorite besides Alrakis

just so diverse and interesting, feels so short for a 90 minute album
