yeah i do think i like this more than in a flesh aquarium, still some of the stuff that bugs me about that one but the metal here feels just better in general and it's a bit more cohesive

may pick it up

it's hard to pigeonhole this but I'd say it has more similarities to post-metal than anything else

and in that regard it's a much better realization of the "post-metal with female vocals" thing than Mariner imo

like this is one of the few post-metal albums that feels like it has a claim to sludginess but it's also just, really dynamic on the whole? i kinda like it, a lot

okay so how do these guys sound exactly the same after 7 years between albums
and it's just. these guys will always be "that guitar hero band" to me and this kind of music just doesn't interest me anymore. it's really boring, lol

the whole thing was pretty cool all the way through, i dug it a lot, one of the better albums from the stuff i've been checking out for sure

i listened to this entire thing and it left absolutely no impression on me. not bad but not particularly interesting either and i probably won't be bothered to come back to it. feels a little one note, especially...

Yea, I heard something of this the other week. I know what you mean about the 'Guitar Hero' thing. I thought the song I heard sounded ok. Might give the album a go sometime soon.

Yeah they're still trying to gain success because of that song. :lol they even put "Impulse II" on that album which had exactly the same main riff as Impulse. It's a cool and pretty iconic riff at this point but to repeat it and try to get away with the excuse of it being 'part two' is kinda.. lazy. I definitely liked Magic Machine quite s bit though, specially the Jordan Rudess features.

Still listening to Painted In Exile - The Ordeal quite a bit, crazy how I only just found out about this, so good!

Listening back to it right now, it's actually exactly the same song but with a cleaner guitar tone (which on its own makes the main riff sound less good), different drums, and some random string/horn sections thrown in. I hate when people undeservedly throw around the term 'uninspired', but this song is the very definition of uninspired :lol

Nah, the Survivor isn't their best but it's ok. The HEAT is excellent. They are a great band now they have the new singer.

I much prefer their Back to Where You've Never Been record.  I think that one has a different drummer and singer from the album pictured.

Also, figured I'd go on a little Spock's Beard kick today.

I just... dunno. This just doesn't do it for me. It feels way underwritten. It's like the bridge between Bilateral and The Congregation, but not as fun as the former and not as jagged as the latter. The Valley is great but that's about the only song that sticks out and even it still goes on a bit longer than it should

The last three tracks are a single composition actually.

On Cognitive he definitely sounds more like Maynard than on Tellurian

He is now making his transition into Akerfeldt cleans, the new song sounds a lot like Tool + modern Opeth, though the instrumentation is more like Ghost Reveries Opeth. Check it out, its a great song (Sectarian).

I did. Packaged with the live album with a couple of extra tracks. They've missed a trick. They should have released Turbo and Ram It Down as the Twin Turbos package it was meant to be.

Yeah that's a good idea. They should have finally done the Twin Turbo release, like how it was intended to be. Great idea actually
