hmm this is... interesting. definitely doing its own thing. not sure i'm a fan of the vocals and i'm surprised at how much of this is instrumental but it's diverse enough to work.
also the last track is really damn good, whoa
yay

This is a very nice album  :D

Yeah I remember not liking the production of that one, but that was like 3 years ago before zancul developed so might give it another chance :corn

Btw, there are two versions of that album - the original, which was self-founded and sounds like arse, and the rerecorded one, which sounds a bit better, and it's probably the one on importcds.

You'd also like their other record the ychtochologist or something. They're all pretentious concept albums, and my friend is obsessed with this group :P

i mean i ended up listened to the original recording for like two tracks and it doesn't really sound all that bad but yeah the rerecording was better and yeah that's the version that's easy to buy

Listened to this one since I've been meaning to since forever, also it's one of bae's fav albums so why not. This is certainly... Eh... ambient? but also very experimental and atmospheric... and slow. I like it. Also the singer sounds a bit like SW :lol
This will be one of the last batch of new albums I'll get to listen to before closing my retrospective list - so I have time to digest them.

I haven't listened to that one yet, but the one before it, Spirit of Eden, is really good. It's probably the album I've listened to the most from my recent haul of albums. Despite its flaws, it has a really nice vibe.

In recent times, I've been playing

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
Swans - Children of God
Jeff Buckley's Glastonbury set
Bob Dylan gigs from 1963
Joan Baez - Gulf Winds
Nina Simone - High Priestess of Soul
Solstafir - Svartir Sandar
Portishead - Dummy

And I haven't listened to Spirit of Eden :lol

Yeah this one has lots of weird melodies, but a nice vibe overall.

Portishead - Dummy
I definitely aprove of this :P

With Talk Talk, I'm not overly fond of the singer, and I find it almost impossible to understand what he's saying. But the music is pretty amazing, so it gets a pass.

With Portishead... I'm really not a fan of the scratching, though it's not overused, and only really degrades the song on one or two tracks. I've also fallen out with electronic drumbeats in recent times, they just irk me lately. Despite both of those things though, I'm somehow listening to the album the most at the moment since I first bought it and tried it out about a year ago, and quite liking it.

brain tentacles: okay maybe not an album that really holds up well on relistens. honestly just feels a bit underwritten, these would be very unremarkable tracks without the gimmick. the second half gets a bit more interesting at least, with both the heaviest and most relaxed songs mixed together. it's ok.
dissona: okay wow this was a lucky good find. this is like everything i wanted native construct to be. a bit more serious but still loose enough to be a bit weird, technical but not overly showoffy, heavy when they need to be and mellow at other points, a decent emotional weight. at first i was feeling the back half was a bit weak but i think it's really just the closer, which probably should've been a bit shorter. hard to support the weight of the two tracks before it too since they both rule
wilderun: yeeeaaah easily a great album. love the folky vibe, love the intensity and love the beauty of it. the garden of fire and the means to preserve are both fantastic and everything else is varying levels of great. wouldn't yet say it's something i really love listening to but i definitely see myself revisiting this quite often

I think you'd like their last album more, it's certainly very experimental and actually closer to krautrock, if that sounds appealing :P

I've been ridiculously busy with life ever since the beginning of July, so I haven't had any time to dedicate to either finding new music, or listening to knew releases. Recently though I made a playlist of every album released this year that I want to check out, and I've made a conscious effort in the last few weeks, at work, and over Thanksgiving break to listen through what I could. I've found some really, really great albums.

Currently spinning:

And plenty of others. But the albums above are my favorites aside from the obvious Haken/Thank You Scientist/Periphery releases.

On a side note, I stumbled across a couple days ago. Great stuff. Really hoping for a full length release soon.

a very "fine" album but i dunno. without the growls this would be a very standard prog metal album. a decent one, but. the growls really do not feel necessary or fitting. and beyond that it's like, yeah, fine enough but nothing really special.

pretty solid. the last track of the album had some interesting stuff going on and the female vocals are definitely interesting too. may have to relisten but i'm thinking i may get this one, yeah

ironically the ambient bonus track is prob my favorite on the entire thing though

Wow I rmember seeing that Dissona album and I think I even played a song or two of it but that sounds interesting. I'm currently checking out the first song and it's really solid, guess I will have to stall my 2016 list until I have digested this one. I think Evermind might dig this too :lol

the first three tracks and the two tracks before the last track are my favs with the stuff in between being solid but not as strong, and the closer is okay but a bit anticlimactic, basically

i only know of these guys 'cause they opened for leprous tbh but they seemed cool and then they were cool

What are your impressions of this album? I have it saved and I think I've attempted a listen once or twice, but I just can't remember much about it. Given, it has been a while.

I liked it. Stumbled across it on YouTube. Guitarist impressed me.
