So not a "grower" for you Tim?

"Grower" is not a word I would want to use with that cover.

What kind of music is The Hotelier?
Indie rock.

OK. Just checked it. You could say it's pretty um...soft.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

Kensington - Control

It isn't bad so far... But it hasn't blown my mind the way Rivals did. It's darker and slower, so I guess you have to be in a different mood to get it completely.

Really? For me it was hard all the way through

I really enjoy both of the encore songs.  The whole album is great.

Absolutely. It was great seeing Charlie and Derek up there, ESPECIALLY with Charlie doing To Live Forever.  :heart

Oh admit it, that :heart is mainly there for Slice the Cake. :P

Which is a great album, but I feel that I haven't fully discovered what it has to offer yet. I'll need to give it a few more listens.

Free: Definitely more electronic than their debut, but not as good as that one or Blood.
Electric Lady: This was... ok? Felt like it was the same 2-3 songs all over the album.
Ki: Ok, I think this one is finally starting to grow on me. Curious to see how this goes.

Frances the Mute: Well, not a big TMV fan so first time listening to this one, and I enjoyed it quite a bit - liked the huge variety of sounds and styles here.
Damnation: Still my fav Opeth album, by fucking far.
Jane Doe: This album is probably too intense as a whole, but it's such an absolute emotional catharsis. I really love the band's philosophy on anger as something to channel constructive, beautiful things. Also dar guitar tone is amazing  :heart

A sample song I heard from that was surprisingly good - what's the verdict ?  (and don't say "better than the Bon Jovi")

EDIT : just caught your comment in the metal thread - good to hear.

It's certainly in the style of Rainbow/Alcatrazz/Schenker. Guitarists is ok but not a patch on the previous ones he's played with, but not many are. His voice is excellent to say he is nearly 70.

anciients: yeah, this is just an improvement on heart of oak in every way. more intensity, more cohesive songwriting, generally just better songs. ibex eye is probably the best thing they've done up to this point but the first three songs here are all great too. the last few tracks don't stand out as much but it's all good stuff and i look forward to relistening to this a ton
dysrhythmia: i basically got this because of my obsession with el drugstore lately and while they're comparable in some ways i do find this inferior. mostly for one reason. there's not really any hooks here. plague ship has tons of these little hooks, generally a few per track, that make relistening to it a blast and almost a necessity with how they get lodged in your head. this is missing that. but that being said it's still a good listen and one that feels like it needs more listens to open up. internal / eternal and when whens end are the two standouts right now but i really feel i'm missing something with the three tracks between them
novembre: i kind of expected this but. this album is a bit samey to the point where a lot of the songs fail to stand out. australis stands out for being the opener, and i already knew umana so it stands out by default. easter has a break in the middle that's the most obnoxious thing so it stands out, and oceans of afternoons has that sax bit to stand out. and agathae is fantastic and train is absolutely wrong about it, best song on the album easily, love the way it builds from this folky track to an intense metal freakout by the end doing so slowly enough to feel cohesive as it does. i couldn't tell you what any of the other tracks sound like and i wouldn't be able to tell you what most of the songs i did mention sound like, but it's still an alright album.

all three of these feel like they need more listens tbh which i will continue giving them
