everything about this sounds a bit rough around the edges tbh. i kinda dig the vocals at times but in general the sound of the vocals is a bit offputting, and the production just feels a bit weak/muddy all-around, hard to find moments with any real pwoer behind them. the album is a bit all over the place too which makes it kind of interesting but also kind of hard to follow. i may give it a second listen though but i'm not sold on it yet.

Geisterfaust: Bohren at their slowest, droniest. Like one song is literally 10 mins of slow keyboard chords, and the sax only appears for the last 3 mins of the last song. Kinda interesting, kinda boring at the same time.
The Slip: Very interesting record, feels like With Teeth and Year Zero had a baby.
Pink: Although most songs blur together, it's pretty consistent and interesting. But I'm still unsure if having a 18 min song closing the album that's basically noise half of it was a good idea.
Music to Make Love...: The concept of this one is so ridiculous and cringe ("I'm a man", "I'm a virgin") - it even has a "I can't live with a man I don't respect" sample  :lol I wonder how much of it is parody. The beats and production are excellent tho.
Soundtracks for the Blind: After lots of listens I'm convinced I'm not that much into this record tbh - I don't dig the production nor the sounds used here. Still a very interesting album.
The Battle of Los Angeles: This might probably be my fav RATM, it's so energic and refined, and the production is astonishing. Such a banger.

Just felt like something different.   Weird band -  in many ways they had a vibe all their own but then the singer really wants to be Axl Rose too  :lol

One day their debut will click and you'll love it :P

Have you checked their last record, The Power to Believe? It's almost metal with some electronics, and some Tool influence - they toured together some years ago. I think you'd dig it.

give me time brother

also no i haven't i probably won't be interested enough to

also i've listened to court enough to know it ain't really gonna click. any album with moonchild is basically doomed though since that song is just a sloooog to sit through. providence at least feels more natural with its instrumentation and builds to something by the end, though it's still the weakest track on red given the two listens i've had of the album thus far

@Sacul - The 18-minute closer of Pink is what makes most of the album though. Best song on it by far imo  :)

I think 21st Century Schizoid Man is brilliant, but finding the full album is a bitch. It's not in the local record store, it's nowhere to be found on youtube and/or spotify, so I can't listen to it :-X if it's anything like that song though colour me intrigued.

The Battle of Los Angeles: This might probably be my fav RATM, it's so energic and refined, and the production is astonishing. Such a banger.
The debut is their best. I can't say a single negative thing about it. It's basically flawless.

Having said that, BOLA is my favourite, and I also like the raw sound on it better than the clean sound on the debut. There are a few songs at the end of the album that aren't so great, but then it also has a number of songs I like better than anything on the debut.

On Red and Court: they're both great albums, but I don't hold either to the level most people do.

any album with moonchild is basically doomed though since that song is just a sloooog to sit through.
The presence of Moonchild means the other stuff is no good? I'm also not huge on Moonchild, and Epitaph isn't amazing, but the other three tracks are.

One day their debut will click and you'll love it :P

Well, actually, there's nothing else on that album like Schizoid Man. After that, there are two very quiet tracks, and two Genesis-ey tracks, so to speak.
If you want more weird jazzy Crimson songs, look up Pictures of a City, Cat Food, Lizard and The Letters. Especially those latter two.

Moonchild is just a blatant weak link. I quite like 21st Century and the closer is close behind, I Talk to the Wind kind of bores me too and Epitaph is just solid. When the album spends its middle three tracks not really impressing me, I kind of lose interest fast.

Still not quite sold on it (nor the album), but I'll definitely give Pink more listens.

Go with Red, trainy, it's groovy and guitars have much distortion it's almost metal at points. And Starless is flawless.
