i find this enjoyable enough music, but it's just missing something, it doesn't click for me.
also, space cadet is cool at first but way too long for how basic it is tbh
i tend to get the feeling that stoner metal in general just isn't for me but i do appreciate this at least

Having put it off since it came out, I finally listened to this today.

Yeah, it's pretty good. Pretty much the opposite of what I expected though.

I've tried multiple times to get into WHBWH but I just always found it super boring. Anathema don't do "bright" music (for lack of a better word) well at all, in my opinion. I understand that the band is in a different headspace than when they made albums like Eternity, Judgment and Alternative 4 and they should definitely put out the music that they want to put out, but I don't think that Anathema have ever sounded more boring.

Sorry, no. Weather Systems exists, I forgot about that. Really, everyone should - blandness to the tenth power.

I think WHBWH and Weather Systems are much better than anything they made before, save Judgement and Alternative 4.

To be clear, I've liked Anathema since Judgement and A Fine Day to Exit (title?). But I was never the hugest fan. Judgement was pretty awesome as an album, but of the others I heard, Alternative 4, Beach Suicide and Guy in Boat on Tiny Pond, there were only two or three songs on each that really struck me as great. When WHWBWHWHWBW came out, I just didn't get around to it (and in turn just left all the others after it alone).

For whatever reason, I had the impression that on this album, they went all blissy and atmospheric like, kind of semi-ambient for the most part. It actually seemed pretty loud the whole way. Not like ROCK OUT shit, but I was listening to it lying down with a headache, and it was noticeable how different a listen I got than what I was expecting.

I'm not gonna say it was amazing or mediocre or whatever, because it was just first listen, but it seemed at least good. And the songwriting seemed at least more consistent across the album than any of the previous ones other than maybe Judgement.

Ye WHBWH is awesome, and although WS ain't much different from it, I personally feel it's a refinement and perfection of that sound. Their last record is also great.

eehh... listened to the first four tracks then skipped to the closer. second and last tracks were decent but the rest bored me. bleed is actually the song that gave me a really bad first impression of the band, which, hasn't changed
From what I've listened so far, I guess you could say their whole discography is one long repetitive song.

I really like this album and, although the only other album of theirs I've heard is Bilateral, I love the direction they have gone. I'm really savouring this band and will pick up another album of theirs soon.

However, there is something about the first track on this album that I don't like. It's something about the repetitive vocals that just turns me off. They use similar vocals at other times on the album but it works for me on those occasions.

I'll be seeing them in March so I will certainly have listened to everything by then.

Wow, surprised to see this band mentioned here. Such quirky music, but I like their stuff.

okay, agathae was actually super rad and i'll probably revisit at least that one
this is a pretty solid sort-of-atmospheric metal album though most of the tracks didn't stand out too much, but, might get it regardless, i liked it

nope. i'm done. it's plainly apparent to me that these guys just aren't for me. can't force it. i mean there are like, small bits i like here and there but this just sounds monotonous to me. it's technical music but with no real point and the technical stuff doesn't even sound cool either. it's just polyrhythms and stuff. like, whoopee. there's barely any sense of groove and 90% of the higher octave noises in these songs are dissonant noodling that, well, it creates "a feel" but having the same feel pop up in nearly every track just makes it lose its power really quick. there's occasionally some decent atmosphere too but nothign to write home about and it's plainly not the focus. i just. don't get the appeal. oh well. i tried. time to go check out stuff i might actually enjoy again

don't know if i find it particularly memorable, but i do find this solidly powerful and there's a nice amount of cool guitar work happening too. may give a bit of it a relisten to be sure, but i do like this, yeah

again, just solid spacey-ish black metal.
don't know if i'm particularly compelled to want to pick it up, though. if i do get any black metal next purchase i think it'll be spectral lore

Well, to contrast:

The last time I remember being this into a metal album was Machine Head's The Blackening. That makes this the first really noteworthy metal album for me for almost ten years.

Funny how I think some of Meshuggahs songs are the grooviest in metal.  :lol

The genre's offered almost nothing of interest to me in recent times. So yes.
