How is this?
Although very badly recorded and drastically in need of a remaster, I'd say it is better than what they do nowadays. This album is viewed as a "demo" and gets ignored by a lot of people.

Probably the most aggressive, experimental ambient album ever? 31 Ghosts is one of their finest instrumentals - dat riff :2metal:

Spotify has one song which I'm checking out now - Sorceress. That sound in the beginning sounds extremely 70s prog.  :metal

Like I just mentioned in the Opeth thread, it's not bad. It's definitely a good song. I just hope it gets better than this.

cynic: i dig the general sound of this album and it's actually really warm and pleasant in a way. some of the songs in the middle really blur together though. but yeah, enjoy this a fair bit
the ocean: first disc is just meh on the whole, not particularly into it but it's not awful either, just meh. second disc is pretty solid though, not as into the more straightforward post-metal style here as i am their proggier, song-oriented approach on later albums but it's all pretty good post-metal. rhyacian and stenian especially
so hideous: i can't tell any of the tracks here apart, but the album has a nice general sound to it and flows well enough to just take as a single piece of music anyways. i think it's missing "something" to make it really work for me but i enjoy it regardless.

I don't believe I have got to the Lords of Black yet Tim........with the amount of time I have spent on other things (podcasts, 1988 list etc....) I'm a bit behind on the shit tonne of 2016 releases.

Innerwish is very good - I rated it around 85% but it really deserves better and (as is common these days) suffers from too many tracks.  Drop the last 4 or 5 tracks (all of which are good but not in the same league as the best in the first half) and I would have it comfortably in the 90's.

I agree with this. LOB also has too many tracks. Both are awesome albums.

First listen. I like this but it's going to take more time to digest.

Am I the only one who hears some similarities to Metropolis on Destiny Calls? I hear a little piece near the beginning that is reminiscent of the Metropolis Pt. 1 instrumental, and then there's a riff early on that sounds a lot like that big riff in Home. There's also the line "Raise my head and stare into the broken eyes of a stranger another." Seem to be a lot of coincidental near-references to classic prog metal concepts on that song. Not a criticism, as I find that kind of thing cool, especially when it's subtle, just wondering if I'm crazy or if others hear it.

On another note, I don't find the dreaded voiceovers to be that bad. They aren't great, but from all the things people say about them, I was expecting a lot worse than what I heard.

I don't think that "Raise my head..." line qualifies as a conscious similarity (this is one of the biggest moments on the album, the first and the only time the main melody is put into words, I don't think they were consciously using anything as an inspiration), but I definitely remember that Home-like riff you're talking about.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Ha, perhaps not. Of course there's no similarity in melody to Eyes of a Stranger, but I was already on the alert for similarities and saw that line.

Glad to hear I'm not crazy about the Home riff.

I hear it. You are not alone
Great album though. Just a shame the 'acting isn't up to the same standards.
