New Death Grips.
ahh, so I would hate it, good
Well, it has a fair amount of metal, but maybe you should get into weird electronic stuff to appreciate it :P

What are you thoughts on The Art of Loss, 425?

I'm probably the wrong person to ask, because I haven't really been a big Redemption fan. I've had Snowfall on Judgment Day for a while, and I like some of the songs but haven't really gotten into others. I decided to get the new one because I do appreciate what some of what this band does and wanted to see if a different album would do better for me. In particular I liked Love Kill Us All/Life in One Day best by far on Snowfall and I wanted to hear them tackle a 20+ epic.

And I really love the artwork on this album.

Two listens in, I'm pretty sure I like it better than Snowfall. The short songs are memorable for the most part, the title track, Slouching Towards Bethlehem and That Golden Light being standouts for me. And I think the epic is pretty good—not jaw-dropping, but generally enjoyable. Generally, I'd say this album definitely serves up proggish metal with good songwriting. I enjoy it and I may check out more of their work. But probably based on my level of interest in that style more than anything else, it's also not in the vicinity of 10/10 AOTY material for me. Enjoyable listen, but nothing revelatory to me.

I like this album a lot, but the Wings For Marie/10,000 Days suite or whatever it is goes on for far too long and becomes a snoozefest. Intension could be omited and it wouldn't hurt the album at all.
The rest of the songs are easily in the 8-10 range though. (Jambi is really fun to play on guitar  :hefdaddy)

I think WFM/10,000D is the best thing on that album. Quite often these days, I play that suite and I'm done.

yeah, the album basically ends for me after 10,000 Days, the rest of the tracks range from "decent" to "really boring" and Intension might be the worst Tool song that isn't just dumb noises tbh, it's just pointless
but damn, 10,000 Days, what a song

I like the rest of the album, some of it I really like, but WFM/10,000D is the peak.

probably the only album in my entire last haul that isn't really "metal" but what it is is a pretty neat combination of bassy prog and post-rock

it's definitely a much more laidback style of post metal but it's pretty nice, actually
works better as an album than any individual songs tho

When in the right mood (like right now), this is legit one of my favorite albums, but there has to be a good time and place for it.
people on this board are actual music fans who developed taste in music and not casual listeners who are following current fashion trends and listening to only current commercial hits.

I didn't think this was a particularly fogey record? It's prog metal and it came out in like 2014.

But yes, the pictures are pretty embarrassing and funny IMO. :lol And I had the same assessment you did: good but maybe a tad samey.

i mean it's like that halfway point between power metal and prog metal that a lot of the fogeys seem to love

me either, which is part of why i checked this one out  :lol
though the new haken is also baiting all the fogeys because of the 80's sound, and then scaring them all with einar's growls, it's really funny tbh
meanwhile i'm over here krumping to thy catafalque like whoa this is the worst sentence i've ever written tbh

Yeah, I have no idea what those things mean. :lol

Someone should make a chart of DTF genres. "Fogey music," "Zantera / Sacul music," "Paramacore," etc.

I don't think Vanden Plas is fogey music unless you lump all the progressive / power metal into "fogey music" category.

Also, I didn't look at the pictures, going to do that right now.

Edit: um, I don't know what's so hilarious. Yeah, they're a bit on the cheesy side, but the whole album is like that, so it works for me.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

My first ever Katatonia album, I actually liked the artwork and booklet before I started to enjoy the music.
It brings back some good memories too, I was holidaying in England just after it's release and took a chance with it.

Exactly this

Some of the fogeys.... there's plenty that aren't into this - but overall, there are very few that dig paramacore.
That's a word salad - and take it from me, I know word salad
I fear for the day when something happens on the right that is SO nuts that even Stadler says "That's crazy".
