What are you thoughts on The Art of Loss, 425?
I'm probably the wrong person to ask, because I haven't really been a big Redemption fan. I've had
Snowfall on Judgment Day for a while, and I like some of the songs but haven't really gotten into others. I decided to get the new one because I do appreciate what some of what this band does and wanted to see if a different album would do better for me. In particular I liked Love Kill Us All/Life in One Day best by far on
Snowfall and I wanted to hear them tackle a 20+ epic.
And I really love the artwork on this album.
Two listens in, I'm pretty sure I like it better than
Snowfall. The short songs are memorable for the most part, the title track, Slouching Towards Bethlehem and That Golden Light being standouts for me. And I think the epic is pretty good—not jaw-dropping, but generally enjoyable. Generally, I'd say this album definitely serves up proggish metal with good songwriting. I enjoy it and I may check out more of their work. But probably based on my level of interest in that style more than anything else, it's also not in the vicinity of 10/10 AOTY material for me. Enjoyable listen, but nothing revelatory to me.
