Is it any good?

Very laid back... just Peter and a Piano or Guitar most of the time.
I like it...

Not a fan before.... somehow he slipped by me. Now I need to make up for it though as it looks like I will be seeing him live next year.

Currently listening to The Dear Hunter - Act I: The Lake South, The River North. I'm probably going to listen to Act II: The Meaning of, and All Things Regarding Ms. Leading next because this album is amazing. I'm glad I decided to finally listen to The Dear Hunter.

act iv is pretty good but i can't even finish act v, it's just the opposite of what i want from a TDH record

act ii leans more to the rock side of things and less showtunes than later acts, so yeah, i dig it

need to get act iii sometime

ngl, I slightly preferred Act I to Act II. I dig the chamber pop/showtunes vibe that they have going on there sometimes. My only real complaint with Act I was that it was too short (and maybe that like 2 minutes of vinyl ambiance at the end of the album).

I still really liked Act II though. I'm starting Act III now.

Sufjan at his most maximalist, blending those electronic and orchestral elements into complex arrangements and beautiful songs. I love the 26-min epic Impossible Soul. In a way it reminds of this year's Planetarium (both were written around the same time) but without the ambient sections.

Just started The Dear Hunter's Act V: Hymns with the Devil in Confessional. This album cycle has been a wild ride.

Ranking so far:

1. Act IV
2. Act III
3. Act I
4. Act II

Another band I'm glad I finally decided to check out. The guitar and drum work is phenomenal, so many creative ideas in there.

I can imagine, haha. That was almost impossible to not headbang/groove along too.

Moved on to Moulettes - Moulettes. This is the only album by them I haven't listened to yet, but the other three were fantastic and it's starting well. Some great Progressive/Chamber Folk/Art Pop.

Maturity and reality finally hit Taylor Swift. I really love the song "Call It What You Want" and "Ready for It."

Les Friction - Les Friction. It sounds like 30 Seconds to Mars/Muse-style proggy alternative arena rock mixed with Two Steps from Hell. It's definitely a cool sound.

Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning. It's one of the only SW solo albums I haven't listened through all the way yet. I'm definitely liking it so far.

Also just finished giving Yes - Drama a proper listen. It was fine. Not really great, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Machine Messiah is a pretty killer song tho

Some highlights of the albums I've been listening to the past weeks:

Converge - The Dusk In Us: I'm loving this way more than I expected, this music is normally a little too grunty for me but this kinda struck a chord. I guess I can kind of connect more to the singers emotions than the other bands in this genre I've heared.
The Family Crest - Beneath The Brine: I can really recommend this band to any The Dear Hunters fan, it's no coincidence this band is supporting them on their tour, really love the orchestral elements here.
Ulver - Assasination of Julius Ceasar: Love the trip hoppish vibes here, still haven't gotten into any of their other albums though
TDH - The Color Spectrum: I love Indigo, Red and Black, but overall it's too long for me to listen to often, especially since it has quite some songs that don't stand out too much
Vulfpeck - Mr. Finish Line: Vulfpeck deliver again! Captain Hook is genious  :lol
ASIWYFA - The Endless Shimmering: Possibly my favourite of theirs, they balance the busy math rockish parts with more atmospheric post-rockish parts than on their previous albums

Definitely what makes Converge stand out from most hardcore bands in general is how brutally honest and emotional their music is while still being  :metal . That's definitely a great record by them, glad they're back.

Haven't explored all of their catalogue yet, but I've heard their previous record was pretty diverse and well-received. Jane Doe might be a little chaotic for you, but its lyrical content might appeal you anyways. Axe to Fall is pretty straightforward, even with some solos, at times feels like Megadeth in steroids  :lol

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
