So glad I clicked on that thread. This album is just lovely. Right up my alley. Female vocals, piano, great arrangements.
I don't know how they can be so proud of winning with them odds. - Little Big Man

This band is quickly becoming one of my favorites
Still need to give them a listen, dunno where to start when they release 5 albums a year and they're all well-received :P

I'd probably recommend I'm In Your Mind Fuzz or Float Along as starting points. :P

i think i'm slightly turned off by the vocal style here, which i'm not huge on, and some of this can feel a bit dry, but i can't help but admit there's also quite a number of interesting things happening here, they definitely don't sound quite like any other band i can think of. may revisit.

listening to the first few songs i was digging the sound but it didn't take long to notice how repetitive and minimalistic a lot of these tracks are structurally. and track 5 is a disjointed mess. everything after that started blending in to the point where i barely remember it and then superstar came on at the end. it's like a perfect places style closer in a sense. but anyways yeah this was a bit exhausting to sit through despite being fairly short, don't think i'll be revisiting, just not enough here

oh man i listened through this entire thing and it's just some of the blandest metal i've heard in recent memory. the band fails to establish any kind of identity and doesn't seem to be very enthusiastic about metal in general, just sticking to safe, sterile riffs that lack power or memorability. the vocals i was never a huge fan of to begin with either and they don't do much to impress me. this sort of just ends up feeling like 50 minutes of the same song over and over, and it's not unpleasant, just dull, not interested in revisiting

Definitely worth checking out some of their other albums as well dude. Like, The Resignation and Gemini, Her Majesty. Actually, Mandela is pretty good too.

out of all the bolsters albums i've checked out so far, it's the one with the lowest individual song score that i end up liking the most, somehow? i dunno, the style here appeals to me a bit more, maybe because there's a rock edge to a lot of their songs. will definitely at least relisten. not like, huge on it yet but i dug it a fair bit

while this is fine enough it feels a bit overshadowed by the ongoing concept for me. and the metal seems a bit... tame, the vocals not quite up my alley. i dug them on a single song basis and this will probably get a relisten anyways but i'm not feeling it that hard as of right now

good to know untrue isn't a fluke and their style of metal does lean towards that great balance of melody and dissonance that that song had on display, heck, i don't know if untrue is even among my favorites after a full listen here. but yeah, vocal style again not hugely my thing but this is solid enough overall that i'll definitely at least come back to it even if i don't purchase

this is definitely way too long, though stylistically pretty solid. some heavier moments i wasn't quite expecting and i feel like campfire may have been a bit underscored even with the bump i already gave it, but yeah, maybe if this was cut down a bit more i'd be more into it but i still did like it on first listen

will note that some of these that -could- get relistens probably won't for the upcoming order since i'm already buying stuff way later than i would want to be even speaking right now, blah. but i do plan to give most of these albums a fair shot in time even if it carries over to 2018

i'm not relistening to this, mostly because it's good enough that on first listen i know i'm buying it. yeah. i knew this would be right up my alley from the song i was sent and it did not disappoint, not even sure if that track is my favorite here, probably not. some good proggy sludge metal stuff, yessir.

i really dunno what this album is trying to be. i mean, a concept album obviously, but. stylistically, it just never seems to decide. and it's too concept album-y for my tastes with lots of short interlude tracks that go nowhere. i still do really like cutting the cards but not much else here caught my interest and i'm not really interested in returning

awful album name, lol. also, feels like it pushes harder on the post metal side than the prog side, and probably goes on a bit long too. i do like it nonetheless, but if i only get one album from this band for now, based on first listens it is absolutely gonna be their debut.

Yep. I usually need multiple listens to even decide if I like album and I will definitely give this another, it is pretty good (for a first listen). There are still many more roulette albums to check out tho :-\

some nice chill stuff from iceland. will at least relisten, i found this quite pleasant, maybe a bit dull at moments but overall enjoyable. iceland is the best country for stuff like this tho for real geez

so this started out kind of awful and i was wondering if i would even finish but it got progressively better as it went on and genre hopped like three times without ever feeling incohesive? at the start it's more straight death metal, by stormblast it was more prog/death/sludge somewhere in between, and the last track was like a heavier elder track, very traditional doomy. it's weird. i'm intrigued to some extent but that start is really not good

did not finish this one, tbh, just not my style. the vocals especially. on virgin they're kind of downplayed & the song has a weird, different feel from the rest of the album. i stopped after virgin because it was clear that was the odd one out and the only one i liked at all.

i like the sound of this but it's clearly far too long and doesn't really stand out for me in any way. it's an interesting concept though. i'd have to be in the right mood for it, for sure, don't think i will pick it up now but may consider it for the future

apparently this group is formed mostly from former unexpect members? anyways, this was actually not very good. vocals especially were weak but a lot of the metal is meh too, it has occasional moments of interesting stuff but mostly just felt sloppy and uninteresting.

I like Wolves and Rift, but the true beef of that record is everything from Stormblast onwards (original pressing track order). That run is almost perfect.

Yeah I'd agree that everything stormblast onwards is good

Just finished listening to Ne Obliviscaris - Urn for the umpteenth time. It's amazing how even the weakest tracks (basically the three singles released before the album) just majorly jump in quality in context of the album. Like the past two albums, this one is consistently great from start to finish. Definitely my album of the year so far (although Diablo Swing Orchestra may change that) and a top 20 all time album for me for sure.

Now I've moved on to Juno Reactor - Labyrinth, which is Symphonic Goa/Psy Trance (a bit different from Progressive Black Metal). Another consistently good album, though I haven't really listened to it from start to finish before now. That was definitely a mistake.

Nice work.   Heavens Gate are really under rated.  My fave is Livin In Hysteria.   They would've done better I think if they toned down their quirky sense of humour.
