The Hirsch Effekt - Holon : Agnosie

this one is still great, though it's the only one of theirs I was familiar with until earlier this year because I'm slow and dumb

singer/songwriter-y chill rock album with a touch of progressive influence. sounds kinda like anathema. there's a female vocalist that sounds kind of like anneke.

this is because this is the solo project of one of the members of anathema, and anneke is the female vocalist on a few of this tracks.

i mean, it's okay but feels a bit... well, monchrome, to say the least, lacking the emotional depth of the better anathema stuff and really kind of lacking variety too. don't mind it and it's better than the actual anathema album we got this year but i won't return to it either

Haha -  it's a group featuring some guys from Slash's band (Todd Kerns etc....) doing covers of some of the biggest Canadian rock hits.   Some good ones they do too.

Apparently pissing your name in the snow is a "thing" in Canada - a big enough thing to make your Canada tribute album cover :lol

I have never seen snow so wouldn't know about it :)

Yep. I think the only party in the MP/DT situation that hasn't moved on is DTF.

starting to make a dent in my roulette stuff, hopefully i can decide on albums to get within the next week or so?  :lol

pretty cool, a bit rough-sounding but it's energetic and intense. dunno if i love it but i very much want to relisten to it at least one more time

hmmm... nah schizophrenic is the best song here for sure, they try to make their music really pretty but it comes off kind of sterile, and a bit slow at times. there were some other decent tracks and i may come back to this at some point but i don't think i'm that keen on this right now, though it's not bad really

i sort of expected this but yeah this is just... very flavorless and kind of generic, i really did not get much from this. the last track was decent enough as was the song from my roulette but neither are that impressive and the rest of the album sounds exactly like itself anyways. oh well

i think there's only like one album in round 1 i still wanna check out 'cause i already checked out the best stuff from that round but round 0 stuff is pretty much checked out & the only thing it's looking like i might get at all is windir, oh well  :lol

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces
