DTF Chat Thread v. OMG Guys it's a new Chat Thread

On the phone right now trying to get some form of internet hooked up in our new house.

Our builder never filed the appropriate paperwork for Time Warner so no internet for 3 months from them, our builders excuse "There was an issue with the paperwork" which means that they forgot to file it.

We have ATT fiber here which is sweet because our house was pre-wired for it. ATT tech comes out last week and says "I'd love to start your service but the construction guys ran over the cable, we have to get an engineer to come out and fix it" Engineer comes out and fixes it. Get a tech to come out and the construction people cut the cable again. I called the development manager and asked what the fuck is the problem and he said his guys will be more careful in the future. Now we wait for internet.

That's been the story of this whole build. I'm usually very calm about issues but after some of the things wrong with our house I fucking put the hammer down. Documented all of our issues and threatened with legal action so finally things are starting to happen.

It's ridiculous it even has to get to that point.

So my sister-in-law and her husband bought a new single family home after only living in their townhouse for 3 years. They barely have any equity in the townhouse and haven't sold it yet, so they are carrying two mortgages and the house they bought, while very large and nice, requires some work. They are maxing out credit cards to do what they need to do (not doing into debt, they are paying them off) and are spending so much they may as well be broke, yet they criticize us for not yet pulling the trigger on buying a new house and moving. We've been in our house for 10 years, there is wear and tear we need to "undo" to bring it up to sale level, and there are a lot more things involved than just going for it, and they don't seem to get that. "Well, we did it, why can't you?" Ugh.

There's an episode of I Dream of Jeannie on TV in the background, and they're in Baghdad I think, in some harem? And there's like 3 white chicks and an asian, all dressed pretty much like the main chick, getting all touchy feely with the main guy. It looked very authentic, as I'd expect from 1960s television.

Boss is back in the office for the first time in almost a month today. Really not looking forward to it but what can you do? Wish it wasn't raining but oh well.

Well, we finally got our answer about PTO.

We are closeing the week after Christmas, but opening the day after New Years. Her logic is, honor New Years the Friday before, honor Christmas the Monday after, and gift us the three days in between. I put in to take the three days leading up to that week off, and that will give me 12 days off to end the year and I'll start the year with a full week of PTO and begin accruing on top of it immediately.

Good enough. Can't complain about a week off. Kinda sucks she still took away Jan 2nd, but eh. Not going to bitch about 12 days off that's only costing me 3 days PTO.

Sweet.

For Thanksgiving, we got Thursday AND Friday, which made for a nice 4-day weekend.  For Christmas (which, as you know, is on a weekend this year), we get Friday AND Monday, which makes for another nice 4-day weekend.  And then we get January 2nd off as well.

Yeah I got the 4-day weekend for TDay as well. Giving you both Friday and Monday off for Christmas is very nice. I kind of wish I could take Jan 2 off and not have it be part of 2017's PTO, but like I said, it's hard to complain about 12 days off. Though I'm sure I could find a way.

The thing with me is I hardly ever take a day off, sick, vacation, or otherwise. I took a week in June to go to the beach, but other than that I have not missed a single day all year. I actually still stand to lose an hour and a half of PTO unless I find a way to spend it here or there before the year change. I can roll 40 hours over, and after my three days in December I'll have 41.5. I suppose I could leave an hour and a half early the day before but that seems silly. Oh well, I'll figure something out.

We have an awesome Retirement and Profit-sharing plan here, and the vacation policy is pretty lenient for what I've experienced as well. I'd still love to work for a larger company with bigger eyes for employee well-being and perks, though. Maybe, in due time.

Afternoon guys.

Had my interview today for that position that I was under-qualified for and it was a tough interview. The written skills assessment was not that hard. There was then a meeting with 3 engineers and they threw problems at me, some had me completely stumped.

What's happening around these parts?
