Welp, our AC started making a noise last night, so we called a repair company that we trust. Still blowing cold, keeping the house cool, but it's a Freon unit that they don't support anymore because of government regulations and it's showing signs of breaking down. Low on Freon, guy says he doesn't think it will last a hot summer. So, new system here we come. *sigh* The joys of home ownership.

Not my house but my boss just came home to her vacation house here in florida. I went in before she arrived and set the ac down. Both units died while she was gone, I think she paid close to $15,000 to replace them.

Yup.  I've got to get a new boiler/furnace.  7 grand. 

Smaller house Reap.  Only one bath so this is why it's cheaper.

I dressed mine up a bit and luckily I was really good friends with the IT director at my old job so he told me whatever I said I did, he would back it up. It's not like I didn't know how to configure Cisco equipment. We just didn't have any at my old job.

I have a computer engineering degree and work in IT.  It's a lot easier to know someone, got a shitty entry level job right out of college so I had no experience just my degree and worked my way up.  Granted, I got that first job due to a friend of my father, but I was definitely qualified for that entry level job (maybe even over qualified actually) and they were willing to teach me what I needed to know.

That's all you need really - a foot in the door. As long as you show you're willing to learn and adept at learning various technologies, they'll give you a chance. One still has to prove themself, regardless of what the resume says.

I think what I'm going to do is volunteer at some places that need IT to at least get the experience. My mistake is I went into a field I didn't like because I made more money and now I want to switch it up and do something I like.

You can always add a white lie or two, too. If you know how to do something, then put that on the resume. At least when it comes time to prove it, you'll know how to do it.

Morning everyone.

So the three weeks leading up to my vacation were hellishly hectic, chaotic, and stressful. Then we vanished for a week and a half to the beach, which was good. However, I did a number on myself at the end of the trip stressing about what I might be coming back to at the office, but all was fine. Today is the last day of my boss in the office for a week as she will be in Australia all next week at our Asia-Pac Summit (the source of the majority of my stress leading up to my trip), and as of now 99% of my responsibilities on the deliverables of this project are done. Prints are ordered and approved, other items are in hand, and the only outstanding item is the attendee name badge order that should be arriving today. I am genuinely hoping for a smooth day today leading into a relatively quiet week next week.
Fingers crossed.

Oh and, the new HVAC system is in, on, and working beautifully, so there's that as well.
