It's the decency John that people are losing.  It's such a selfish world right now.

Reap, I feel ya.  I had a guy just come in 3 times the last to fill out his 1st day paperwork.  He was to start last night and didn't show up.  Why waste both our time to go all the way through and then not show up?   I'm starting to hate people.

The thing that gets me is these two are known for this type of behavior of not showing up or having some sort of issue causing them to be really late. Writing them up and it's the end of the world because they need the job. If you need the job then act like it, it's not hard, show up, stand for 8 hours and smile. That's it.

Get rid of them.  It's bad moral for those other workers that care.  It's unfair for them.  They show up.

From my experience, if you don't show up on time for the first day, then that person likely won't be showing up on time with any regularity in the future. 

If I owned a business, anyone who showed up on the first day late without valid excuse would be fired right then and there.  What a terrible example to set for your new boss.

I picked up a CCNA Security book today. There's no way I'm going to be able to study for the CCIE Written exam in six months, so I'm going to take an easier exam to renew my license. I have until December to study and pass the test. I think I can do it sooner, as long as I keep at it everyday.

Nice.  My company is paying for me to get my CDCDP (certified data center design professional) which is pretty cool, but seems to be a useless cert since I don't think I will learn anything new.  Tried to push for a network one, but he agreed that once I get this then they will pay for the CCNA equivalent for Arista (forget what it's called and we are turning into an exclusively arista network).

Arista Certified Engineering Associate (ACE-A)

I've heard of them, but I have to say that I have never seen one of their routers/switches in our network, and we have equipment from almost every company.      We're not one for uniformity.
